Ok, first thing to check is a possible bent pin on the cruise/reverse control module plugs. Do you still have the shelter off?

I also have a 2005 1800 and when I change the air filter the reverse light will not come on I’ve tried spraying cleaner on the switch tried leaving the actuator cables nothing seems to work is there something by the air filter that I might have unplugged or a wire loose What does it do when you pus...

Re: Crankcase Question

On the wing engine they are there to close up the machining alley ways required to create passages internally that can’t be cast. They are locktighted due to expansion/contraction of the block during warmup and cool down cycles that would cause them to loosen up.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad ordeal with a dealer, but it doesn’t surprise me. Most dealer mechanics suck at electrical troubleshooting. If you still have this trike, I would be glad to help you figure out the cause.

Ok, now that it is too cold to ride here, I wish to add a bit more to the problem of my "03 Wing overheating issue. I noticed that on Xpressway riding, under 70 mph, no problems, temp gauge stayed in the middle like it has always done both 2 wheel and now triked, however, above 70 mph,(now with tri...

Re: Fog lights not working

If they are Honda, there will be a cutout relay in line between the switch and the lights. This relay energizes when the high beams are on and is de-energized when they are off. It’s normally closed contacts are used to send power to the lights in this de-energized state. If this relay exists and i...

Re: Fog lights not working

Tail lights are working. High beams are NOT on. I think they are Honda, but I don't know for sure. Just got the bike in May of this year. and they were on it when I got it. There is cowling around them, if that helps. Next idea? If they are Honda, there will be a cutout relay in line between the sw...

Re: Fog lights not working

Are these Honda and do you have the high beams on? If they’re Honda’s setup, the high beams cut them off. They are powered by the tail light relay and fuse. So if your tail lights are working, it’s probably not a power problem.

is the relay under the seat?
Yes, the brake light relay is under the seat on the 01-17 1800s. To check the rear brake pedal switches, you have to remove the right side engine cover.

Re: GL1800 cooling fan wiring modification kit

A wing triked or not should not run hot while driving above 25 mph. You might have something else in the cooling system causing this, blocked radiator, bad thermostat, etc... If there is something else going on, then the fan reversal won’t give you the results you’re looking for.

Re: Starter vs relay

Looks like you guys gave me some things to test later today. Many thanks for your responses. Quick question - 2003 1800 ... if the need proves the need to remove the starter. Does the fuel tank need to be removed? If so, what’s the procedure? Yes, if the reverse A fuse shows full battery power with...

Re: Starter vs relay

On the P-cars we had multiple relays of the same type and we could swap them around temporarily to troubleshoot issues like this. Is it the same on the GL1800? The relays under the seat have some multiples for swapping, but there’s only two starter relays and they both have to work for it to start....

Re: Starter vs relay

Check the voltage on the Reverse Fuse “A” while you are holding the starter button switch in. If you see full battery power, then your starter has bit the dust or the cable on it has come loose. Further diagnosis will require the gas tank out to reach the starter. That fuse is a direct sample of the...

Just thought I'd give an update on my FI issue I posted about earlier in this thread. As Techdude and Greg both mentioned.... 99% of the time an FI code 26 is an ECU going bad. So I ordered a new Honda ECM from partszilla. Got it put in yesterday along with a new air filter while I was in there. Sh...

OK, if the fans are working like they are supposed to what is the reason behind installing a manual switch? On is on, they don't get any more on. I have on mine had it get a little above normal temperature when going between 15 & 20 mph in hot weather. The fans turn off at about 20, if I could get ...

UPDATE: I returned the battery to Advanced Auto. Turns out the battery was manufactured in April of 2014. The other batteries they had were also defective. I purchased a new battery at Heyser Cycle (Honda Dealer). The voltage is 12.82. With the bike running the voltage reads 12.16. I think I fried ...

Re: Problem with Reverse

This is most likely a bad connection on one of the power control relays that sit to the rear of the battery. There’s three of them and their job is to control how much power goes to the starter while backing up. This kind of problem has no adjustment. If you hear a clickety, clickety, clickety, like...

Re: GL1800 cooling fan wiring modification kit

If you reverse the wires on the fans, you will have to flip the blades as well due to them having a contour that is inefficient if run backward. This whole deal only helps if you are doing 16-20 mph with a tail wind. There used to be a company that sold a kit that had new fan blades and a near plug ...

Re: Ignition Coil (check out of curcuit)

It’s more than just a coil, it’s digitally controlled with only 2-5 volts from the ECM for the trigger pulse. There’s probably an SCR inside of it for triggering. Using the green ground wire for reference, if there’s good battery power on the black/yellow wire and you can measure pulsing 2-5V on the...

Is there an easy way to check an ignition coil when it's not wired into my 2006 GL1800? I think mine is shorted to ground but when I take it out it's not shorted to the case.
Is it failing to fire at all? What’s the original symptom?

You can ohm check the primary and secondary windings but that won't tell you if it is arcing to ground or not.
I haven’t tried it, but I think there’s more to the primary side than just a coil and measuring it won’t help determine it’s condition.

Re: Starter Motor Replacement

Well, here's how the story played out. Before quitting altogether, my starter motor had gone into "constant run mode" similar to what "Techdude 2000" described. Honda Service mechanics removed and inspected it, declared it inoperable, and told me of the back-order on the starters. I had an upcoming...
