Re: Goldwing starting issues

usually if your battery is Fully charged ( which new ones are not) and if you are still getting at least 12 volts to the relay (using a tester) then the relay is bad. But, most of the time, the battery voltage is below 11 volts which is too low for anything to work and the only way to check this is ...

Re: starter turns over but no fire until I let off the button

Yup, I wouldn't use anything but distilled water. It's amazing how many minerals are in well and city water. Even to mix with antifreeze, it clogs the tubes in the radiator and heater core. So save yourself a lot of headache.

Re: starter turns over but no fire until I let off the button

I have a 1990 1500 and last year was having the start on release problem. I replaced the battery, put on a slow charge overnight on the bench before installing it, voltage at 13.8 volts , put it in along with clean contacts, still have same problem. Even inside a heated garage !! Up until this I had...

Re: Patriot Guards

One thing that will happen with the Patriot Guard is they will take you in with open arms as long as you are dedicated to the mission of supporting the troops. I have not found people that have been more friendly. I have been with the Guard for 5 years now and they love it when you can support, but ...

Re: A Sad Story, But True

I know that in the large population of the U.P. of Michigan the demand for tire changer is a little low, but here in the metropolis of Hermansville we have an establishment called Jays Automotive Repair, and he also does tires. I ordered a front tire for my 1990 GW 1500 , when he got it I took the o...

Wow, you are one lucky guy. I know that on some days you probably have aches and pains, and lately I have had more bad days then good. But the alternative isn't all that great, so we just have to live with what we have left! Ride safe!

Re: Ever thought about why older wings are for sale

I have retired from volunteer EMT and have seen many people, including my own father, who were hit with this disease and thru time watched it take their lives. I know that in some places the medical councilors can start early with helping to adapt your home to a later time when you will need the hel...

Re: Ever thought about why older wings are for sale

A guy near here has an 83 Aspy with a toepac bolted on for sale for$2300 but I don't know if it runs, and it looks really rough. He also has 2 more trike kits( used) one is a towpac, but not sure what the other one is. The towpac that isn't bolted to a bike looks like they used a hacksaw to cut it a...

Hey Beav, you know why they have those big smiles! But any adult store has them and the cost is a LOT cheaper! I remember years ago a friend of mine went from a GW to a HD trike and started riding with a local group of weekend cruisers. After about a year I happened to meet up with him in the local ...

Re: Goldwing Wannabes

I hate to ridicule anyone that rides a bike that vibrates, after all the people that buy these bikes must know what they do. As long as they enjoy riding, then they can do it how ever they choose. Personally, I have had very bad hand tremors since my accident in 2002, and as time passes they get wor...

Very nice work. I love the two tone seat, although just because I am a mechanic I don't believe that I would have picked white.

Re: The Invisible Motorcycle

I believe that you are right. Once people become comfortable with their driving, then they start to get a little sluggish on the safety training. The majority of traffic is cars so you get used to that. That is why the car driver is so amazed by the bike showing up!

Re: poor boy conversion

If Honda did a recall repair on your bike their would be a stamp on the frame. If not, then you can do the repair yourself, or convert to the alternator. All of this has been gone over in other areas of this blog.

Re: '76 GL1000 Crankshaft Replacement

I have heard of the problem you are talking about, but as someone else said that would be the last resort. I would start with a compression test to figure out the status of the engine. If that checks out good, then I would look at how much resistance each spark plug wire has. As the wires age they g...

I t sounds to me like you've done just about everything you should. The only thing that I can think of would be contaminated fluid, which you should change regularly anyway. It's a small amount of fluid but could make a big difference.

Re: Looking for Jacket

I also use First Gear, to me they are worth their weight in gold. The jacket by itself has zippered vents both front and rear. It also has enough pockets to keep you in suspense every time you try to find something. It's also waterproof so you don't need to carry extra rain gear. The liner zips in p...
