I also recommend getting, studying and practicing from the DVD "Ride Like a Pro" You might also benefit from reading Proficient Motorcycling by David Hough. I would have suggested you contact Whitehorse Press for copies of both but they are in the process of closing and having a clearance sale. Eith...

Re: GL1800 Oil Filter Protection

Eboness, thanks for pointing out this new to me anyway cover for the oil filter. Like Wingsconsin, I do wonder if such an aluminum cover is really worth the cost and effort required to uninstall and reinstall at each oil change. I mean being honest, will this thin sheet of aluminum really protect th...

Re: Dealer lied about the trike and being serviced

I get it that the trike was in bad shape! But are you documenting your complaints and sending a letter to Neihaus? They are the only ones who can even begin to correct the problems or at least work with you to resolve the issues. Complaining here tell us about your problem and emphasizes the importa...

Re: Opinions on riding gear

All of the above. Normal riding gear, esp for trips, is Aerostich Darien. It layers over fleece for added warmth and vents open when it gets hot. But the biggest benefit is that it is waterproof! No need to pack, much less stop and dig out rain gear if it starts to drip. Just zip it up a bit tighte...

Re: Wing Ding Grapevine TX

Mike, do those staying at the Gaylord have to pay the parking fee also? One would think that Gaylord would be making enough money on this event that they could waive all parking fees. It is truly hard to believe that GWRRA would work out such a poor deal for attendees when everyone is making money. ...

Re: Wing Ding Grapevine TX

I think sometimes the most enjoyable part of any Gathering is just walking around the parking lot looking at the many interesting things folks have done to their rides. Naturally this is just enhanced with conversations with the various riders. Over the years I have learned a lot listening to others...

Re: Painting a trailer

Just a thought, but I wonder if the two different colors work to make you more visible? I guess there is no way to test but I can't help but think that the bike makes the trailer stand out more just as the trailer makes the bike stand out more! And I do agree with the previous poster, is painting it...

Re: Wing Ding Grapevine TX

Thrashberg, Wing Ding is the annual gathering of the GWRRA. Normally there will be 20,000 folks or so in attendance. In addition to meals, raffles, seminars, group rides, selfguided tours, there is a huge vendor show which usually includes just about anything you could want for your Wing or for moto...

Re: 2003 gold wing radio lost menory

First try the reset mentioned above with the battery disconnected. Actually taking the battery out and to a shop for load testing will do both at once.

If that does not work you might also go the the wingconnect.com website and check with Larry. He is a guru at fixing and improving these radios.

Re: Who Never Wears A Helmet

I never have worn a helmet. I have one accident (not my fault) under my belt. It's a tricky question because it seems to really polarize folks. My reasoning is: Helmets reduce my peripheral vision and eliminate my ability to hear. Further, they haven't invented a neck protector. Any wreck bad enoug...

Re: DO NOT PURCHASE METZLER TIRES !

Big Blue KY has a wonderful insight to this problem. You, the rider has to make sure the dealer tech does install the correct tire for your bike. The websites of the various manufacturers list this type of info and the consumer needs to make sure you are buying the correct item. I trust a dealer tec...

Mine is a Tulsa Belly Pan. I don't know if they are still in business. It is all aluminum and also in two pieces. The front portion is easily removed with the two screws and grants you total access to the oil filter and oil drain plug. It is not vented.

Re: Yamaha Star Venture "Goldwing"?

In response to FM-USA, yes I would be more inclined to buy this bike if it had an updated version of the old Venture engine and shaft drive. I put almost 200,000 miles on that engine and really liked it. It does need an update and the lessons learned with the VMax show many ways to improve the perfo...

I like the four headlights. I believe that most bikes have piss poor lighting for night riding. But I can't even imagine riding that thing on 95 degree summer day. The heat coming off that huge air cooled engine would roast me alive in no time. I'll stick to my Goldwing. It ducts the heat around me...

I don't own one but I would go for the NoMar. It wprks well but the GL tire is not the easiest. If I were in the market for a changer, I would look for a used unit that works with pneumatic power. But I am not searching. My dealers do it for a good price if I take them the wheel so I do that part.

I appreciate your opinion but noise is a non issue and honestly the 1800's I've seen and heard with aftermarket slip-ons aren't significantly louder than stock. Just a more throaty sound. The HD takeoff option intrigues me, they are readily available and cheap. What years would you suggest might fi...
