Re: Weight reduction vs HP

..... And sometimes I do think it would be cheaper to "kill the witch" than to take a chance on divorcing her. I could keep all my stuff, placed in storage, and waiting for me to get out of prison. Three meals a day and a place to sleep (roof over my head) and my full pension going into a bank acco...

Re: Weight reduction vs HP

I want to apologize if my previous post in this thread seemed insensitive to the guys that were mentioning their wives' physical issues. That wasn't my intention, and it was meant as a "tongue in cheek" comment to inject a little humor-as well as truth. Sometimes what seems harmless at the time can ...

Re: Weight reduction vs HP

Another way to reduce weight is to divorce the witch. But, if you think your wallet would take too big a hit with the new bike, you should see the hit you take getting the divorce! Like the old Johnnie Taylor song, it's cheaper to keep her! https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=it%27s+cheaper+to+keep...

Re: Filter change with every oil change?

Why would you want to run fresh oil through a dirty filter? That makes no sense at all. To save $5-$7 more at every oil change? As the filter "clogs" it will become much less efficient. I'll stick to changing my filter at each oil change, thank you.

Thanks for the side panel. Listing price was high, but the offer was reasonable for the part, and it was shipped quickly.

Looking for front wheel-GL1500

Due to an unavoidable meeting with a neighboring towns' pothole, I'm looking for a good front wheel. The bloody pothole was so big, that it not only bent my wheel, but broke the belts in my front tire. I have my new tire ready, but I thought I'd try here first, before taking my rim off and getting i...

My 2018 riding season started on January 1. Actually the 2017 season only ended when the calendar changed.

New Harley at bike week

Hardley unveiled their new model. I don't think this will be a garage queen.

Re: Austone Taxi Tire

There is just the slightest bit of gyroscopic effect which you might notice in the first five minutes of riding. It's not any different than the difference you'd experience when changing from a worn tire to a new one. You will notice the handling is much more improved, especially if you happen to ri...

Re: Don't believe it when they tell you....

Just because you may bill the customer and give the washer to the mechanic, doesn't mean it gets used. Take a walk through the garage at the dealership and look at the mechanics benches/boxes. They all have a stockpile of crush washers,O rings, new parts, additives, etc., that were supposed to be in...

Re: Anyone else up north (Wisconsin, say??) back at it??

I don't know how far north you mean, but on a clear day I easily see Canada. I've been riding all winter on either my Goldwing or Majesty. We had an early thaw with lots of rain, so that pretty well cleared the roads of salt and sand. As long as the roads are good and the temps are at least 20's, I ...

Re: Magic Gas

Two cans, will give you and extra 15-20 miles, at least on my old GL1500. It's expensive, but on the plus side, they don't take up much room at all. I've never run out of gas, but I may start to pack a can or two, especially when traveling. It's cheap insurance, doesn't take up much space, and if I ...

Re: longevity of timing belts?

It isn't such a big job, nor expensive, that 50K miles/5 to7 years is a good rule of thumb. I think that schedule will avoid any issues and the cost is minimal compared to the damage that a broken belt will cause. Don't forget about the idler pulleys, also. Cheap insurance!

Re: New to me GL1500SE, so much good info here!

Here's another guy that sticks with O.E.M. pads. Having tried metallics, I found them to be marginally better, but made the costly mistake of letting the rear pads wear down. They seemed to wear well until about halfway, then rapidly became used up. An expensive rotor cured me.

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "

That's sad, especially for the survivors. That is one of the reasons I always wear my helmet-the other is to protect against abrasions, should I have an off. At highway speeds it probably isn't going to help against impacts that much, but after seeing a guy with his ear, nose, and the side of his fa...

Re: Over heating

Do a system flush(pull your thermostsat) and make sure all of the hose clamps are tight when putting it back together. The clamps are a common cause of minor leakage that, left unchecked, lowers the level of the coolant. Properly "burp" the system and you should be good. If the problem then continue...

Re: filling holes in plastic

For a hole that small, just the ABS glue will work by itself, especially if you are going to cover with pinstipes or striping tape. No matter how small the shavings are made it will still be "lumpy'.

Also make sure the system is adequately filled. An air pocket can cause issues.
