Re: GL1100 basket case rebuild

Check ebay. I have seen them there. By the way I highly recommmend using the randak kit. I got the package that included the video for my gl1000. Make sure your slow idle jets are perfectly clean.I found out the hard way that they have to be pristine. $200 mistake! Best of luck with your build!

Re: Progress so far on my 78 GL1000

Took my wing out for the first time! Still have a few minor issues but it is running and going down the road. Feeling good about the progress! The windshield came off. It is new but looks incredibly stupid on the bike. Would work good on a smaller bike maybe. If anybody wants it I will sell it for 2...

Re: help! wing runs poorly!

thank you for that reply. I got into the carbs today and found I had set the floats incorrectly and they were not coming up far enough to shut off the fuel. I did have lots of gas in the fuel bowls. Uff da! I reset the floats and I will bench test them again tomorrow.

Re: help! wing runs poorly!

Pulled the carbs yesterday, reset the floats, put it back together. Went to bench test the carbs. I put gas in a small container with a connectio for the hose. Turned the bottle upside down and the gas just poured in and did not stop. I saw the gas pool in the plenum then it came out the intakes. Se...

help! wing runs poorly!

Hi all. I am happy to say I got my wing running! Unfortuately not vry well. It pops and back fires through the carbs and exhaust and will run for a while then floods out to the point that gas is pooling in the plenum. Any suggestions? Not sure where to go from here.

fuel shutoff on 78 wing

So I just put 4 gallons of gas in my wing, turned the fuel valve on then the fuel came pouring out, on to the floor. I was suprised how much it leaked! Thankfully when I shut the valve off the leak stopped. My problem now is how do I change the shut off with all that fuel in the tank and does anybod...

Re: Any hints on how to clean up rust spots on chrome tail l

I use a paste called Simichrome. It comes in a yellow tube. I have found it at motorcycle shops and some automotive places stock it. I believe the box is yellow and red. Great stuff and a little bit goes a long way. Works really well on chrome. Good luck!

Progress so far on my 78 GL1000

Good Evening! Just wanted to share with all of you my progress so far on my wing. I started out with not much in the frame but the engine, wheels and handle bars. The rest of it was pretty much in boxes. I started assembly about a month ago so I can not go crazy thinking about it out in my shed and ...

carb jets stuck

I have a 1978 gold wing I just purchased. I am in the process of cleaning the carbs. I was not able to get the jets out that set below the floats(as the carb sets on the bike). There is a metal clip attached that I am suppose to pull gently and the jets are supposed to pull out. They are stuck. Any ...

Thank you for the replys! I appreciate it. I took the carbs off yesterday and pulled the bowls out. Wow what a mess! Three of the floats were stuck and all of the crap in there was amazing. Anyway I will take your suggestion and go to radakks site. Looks like lots of soaking time with wd 40. The tan...

cleaning carbs with antifreeze?

I just purchased a 1978 Goldwing with 13,000 miles on it. bad part is it has not been running since 1997. I was told it was started about 5 years ago. Anyway, I know the carbs will need cleaning. I saw an article here about cleaning carbs in antifreeze but I cant find it now. I was wondering if anyb...
