Re: Smog - De-Smog ???

G'day to All,

All the required gaskets and "O" rings have turned up so I can assemble my Valky.

I have fitted an aftermarket heat shield, much easier than that floppy sheet that I had to battle with on the GoldWing, might try it on her next time she goes down for a major birthday.

Re: Just for a laugh!

Finally did something about it! laid the cover up side down in a container and put some Acetone in there, then put a lid on the container and left soak for 24 hours. This softened the glue and it slid right off, just a wipe with a sort of clean rag and all the remaining glue came off (so did the K&N...

Busted Bolt!

G'day to All, When I first picked up my 98 Valkyrie I noticed several bolts missing, one was on the Alternator, so I decided to see if the top one would fit and is the required length? To my supprise there was the remains of the old bolt in there  :x So I removed the alternator hoping there w...

Just for a laugh!

G'day to All, as some of you may know, when you put a Cobra 6 into 6 exhaust system on a Valkyrie it makes the engine run a little lean, so re-jetting is sometimes required. This PO had a much cheaper fix ................ just glue a couple of green kitchen scourers into the air intake to choke the ...

Re: Odd Engine number

G'day!

My 88 is a Japanese import, also the Japanese radio stations only go up to 90.0 FM, and guess where all the stations worth listening to are over here? ...... Yes 90+

Re: Smog - De-Smog ???

Thanks for the replies guys, To "De-Smog" your 1500 engine is to remove the tangle of vacuum lines under the carbs. I took another photo of my 15 with the un-matching saddlebags in the carport as the sun bleaches out the colours in photos. I was blown away by the incredible effort that "redeye.tech"...

Smog - De-Smog ???

G'day to Everyone, Firstly I would like to say that I was tickled pink to see one of my photos in this months news letter :D :D :D as you probably know I just acquired a new to me 98 Valkyrie, stripped her down and lubing everything that twists and turns. I have been pawing through the VRCC forum an...

New to you Ride? .... "CHECK YOUR BELTS!!!"

G'day to Everyone, on the 16-April-2016 I became a proud owner of a 1998 Valkyrie, I am now the third owner following 2 fastidious owners. She is in great condition, a couple of tiny blemishes which is acceptable for her age, she has just clicked over 43,000 kms. I trust no-one, especially the deale...

Introducing the latest addition to my family.

G'day to Everyone, just picked up my latest addition to my family this morning, a 1998 Valkyrie with low kms. She runs like a POS but I recon it is a shot coil, or something simple which will be easy to fix. New belts and a teardown to lubricate everything that twists or turns flush out and replace ...

WANTED - Complete right saddlebag for 88 GL-1500 NH-215M

G'day to Everyone, I once met this lady in a shopping centre car park, she got a scratch on her bumper and I got the right side torn off my 1500. I have managed to repair or replace everything except the right saddlebag. I have fitted a different coloured badly scratched one so she is roadworthy, bu...

Re: Are all GL-1500 Alternators the same?

I lubricated the "O" ring well, but the output terminal was just a little longer than the old one, not allowing me to insert the alternator squarely as it interfered with the frame. I couldn't find a metric "O" ring here neither, so I installed the old "O" ring after removing the output terminal, sh...

Re: Are all GL-1500 Alternators the same?

G'day to Everyone, Well my new alternator turned up yesterday, drilled out the mounting bolt holes and fitted her. :D Went for a ride and after about 10km I had to stop for a red light, smoke came bellowing out from underneath. Hmmm! ....... this cant be good? ....... :o Chuck "U" turn and take it e...

Re: Cover for Relays

G'day from the Oz, Yeah that really looks like a bad thought from Mother Honda. I discovered on my 88 that if you remove the two bolts holding the complete relay block in position (one bolt at top and the other at bottom). Then with the correct tongue twisting and a little flexing of the saddlebag e...

I will upload any modification photos for future queries.

Are all GL-1500 Alternators the same?

G'day to Everyone, I recently had to buy a new battery as my old one died, then only to find my new one died too. ................... Hmmm, obviously not the battery but the Alternator. I removed the alternator this past weekend, checked it out and found the exciter windings O.C. Now looking on e-ba...

Final Drive Spiders

G'day to Everyone, Just a quick question for those who know. do all 1500 final drive spiders have the same sized spline on them? Thanks again GWD.

G'day to Everyone, well it is thank you again for the DIY section. After my un-planned meeting with someone in a shopping centre carpark, I had several busted pieces of Tupperware. I managed to source some ABS solvent from a hobby shop, so I just filed some ABS from a scrap piece of busted saddlebag...

Thank you "Mother Honda" for putting the crash/drop bars on the GL-1500. She pulled out hitting my front right crash bar then tearing off the lid of the saddl...

Re: Available FM radio stations?

G'day to All,

I have looked closely at the photos that I took whilst attaching the MP3 player modification. I was hoping to find some "DIP switches", but no!

I guess the little tuning pots have to be molested by someone who knows what they are doing.

Re: Available FM radio stations?

G'day to All, and sorry for the tardy reply, when I bought this bike I was told that she was imported from Japan (which I thought was a whole lot of sales BS). I listen to my MP3 player which I successfully linked in to the standard radio thanks to this group. Many thanks for that. :D It is just whe...

Available FM radio stations?

G'day to Everyone, I just spent the last week removing the obsolete wiring from a spare 88 wiring harness, heat-shrinking all the splices and adding some wiring of my own for my park and headlights. This is all good therapy for me and I now have a better understanding of how my machine works. I do h...

Having fun with a 1988 GL-1500 wiring harness.

G'day to Everyone! I modified my 88 1500 wiring so as i could turn my parking lights and headlights on and off as i wished, only to find that all the instrumentation is powered by the parking lights circuit. Maybe even some of the black boxes too? So i purchased a secondhand wiring harness from e-Ba...
