Re: 9th Circuit Court of Appeals

We all know that the ultimate goal is to gain control of the population by eliminating guns. But the sad truth is that many more people are killed, injured by prescription or illegal drugs. Even considering drugs prescribed by doctors in error. I think I even read that traffic fatalities, drugs combin...

Re: GL1200 steering damper, non-sidecar

As a slightly different approach to the wobble I found a fork brace on Ebay made by pgpowersports for $27 and decided to give it a try after reading about it on this forum. It fits under the OEM brace almost out of sight. There is a noticable change in handling and the typiocal wobble is gone,at lea...

Re: Rectifier Problems

I would guess the series type would solve your problems. I had a similar situation with mine. Why would anyone want to use a "block" heater to burn up excess power when there is a better way?
I would also suggest the use of a good voltmeter mounted in the dash to monitor things.
Happy riding!

Re: Rectifier Problems

There is a LOT of info on this site that will help you. Use search box to look up. One of the best things you can do for your bike is to convert to a SERIES R/R (find at roadstercycle.com) and hardwire the 3 stator output wires. Hookup is super simple and intuitive. The series type as opposed to the...

Re: 1985 LTD Stator and RR

Ok I'm confused. It was charging but now it isnt? You did a stator check before you did ANYTHING else, even before removing the orig RR? The new RR is a straight forward install; 3 yellows to the 3 wires to the new RR and the pos and neg to the battery(5 wires). No other wires need be considered. Wha...

Re: How to Predict Catastrophic GL1200 Stator Failure

If you have NO continuity between the stator phases then you have a bad stator. The stator should have NO continuity to ground. The series type RR modulates each phase and gives the bike only the voltage it is calling for, thus the stator gets a "rest"between power demands. The PM type of power gene...

Re: Antifreeze/Coolant MSDS (Silacates?)

I don't know about that particular brand and these days it seems that everything goes when it comes to advertising. Does the law say that you can put things in it that "may" be considered standard practice like phosphates and silicates and not put them on the label?? They get away with that on foods...

Remove air box. Remove bolt near top left front of box (kinda hidden).Remove choke cable at carb rack assy. remove fuel supply line. Remove vacuum tube. Re: how about 4 cylinder fuel questions

My point was: if a small car with about the same size engine is "loafing" along on the hi way at 2200 RPM then why couldn't the 1200 have been designed for that range. Engine speed makes a diff with cars and trucks otherwise overdrive, etc would not be needed. I'm not trying to be disagreeable here ...

Re: how about 4 cylinder fuel questions

One thing that has always confounded me is why is a 1200 cc engine turning 3000+ RPM at hiway speeds. Cars turn much less RPM and have 2 more wheels to spin and more weight too. Less RPM means more MPG in most cases. I would think the 1200 could have benefited from a true overdrive from the factory,...

You mean to tell me it can't be done. Then you must not remember how big computers were.I say anything can be done that has been proven someone has just got to want to. OK, can't practicably be done. With some exotic materials, perhaps highly-conductive gold wiring instead of copper, maybe supercool...

Re: Making A Heavier Stator and Rectifier for 1200 Goldwing

Perhaps there would be less stator problems if we didn't dress 'em up like a Tijuana taxi . Calculate your stator's max output (in amps)and adjust it's electrical load accordingly.

Re: '86 GL1200 Aspencade Cylinder 3 won't fire.

I had a problem like that. I found the pressed in carb jet clogged. Cleared out with a fine wire, ran Seafoam and she ran beautifully.
The coils fire two plugs at a time. One on compression and the other on exhaust. So unless you have a bad plug, your problem is fuel related.

Tried drilling out but still only the riveted area appeared to loosen but not the entire piece. I have lots of monel wool and did plan on wrapping the perforated pipe.
