Re: Restoration started

This has to be a personal choice. What are you going to use the bike for when it's finished? If you plan on long trips, maybe with a passenger, then you'll undoubtedly see the benefit of the luggage space. If just using it for fun rides and day trips, you probably won't use the luggage capacity. Pe...

Re: Restoration started

Thanks for your info. I’m not sure of the manufacturer of my bags, I may be able to find a name on them somewhere. I thought that they might have been an option available at the time, before Honda was making their own. And, in my case, there is sooooo much mounting hardware and bracketry and comple...

Re: Restoration started

Max, Your Wing is a beautiful bike! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I do have another question, or maybe an opinion poll. If you look back at my photos you’ll see my Wing comes with a Vetter fairing and some other brand of hard bags and a trunk. I think they were factory installed back in...

he assured me it came with the stripper heals in the picture.
Looks like it had a faring on it based on the items that are missing and the headlight.

Re: another $250 gl1000 find

ive been looking at goldwings for the past year. In that time resurrected an old 82 cb900, an 82 Cj7 and have previously built to daily driver status a 1970 bronco and a 1970 camaro. I am comfortable doing my own work. :) With that said, I have looked at, but never owned a goldwing. I have come acr...

Thanks, Snobdr. Still haven’t made a final decision as to how I’ll deal with this.
There are as many ways/answers as you could imagine.

I took what I thought was the easiest route for me.

Re: Restoration started

Hello All, I introduced myself a week or so back. I just inherited a 1978 GL1000 very much in need of a fair amount of work. It has a Vetter fairing and saddle bags and a trunk(trunk is removed in pics). Of course the gas tank is rusty, carbs gummed up, both brakes systems need to be rebuilt, new b...

Re: Quality Head Gaskets that are Made in the USA

You can now get quality head gaskets for the GL1000 that are made in the USA. During the development process, Saber Cycle asked me to inspect and install a set on a 1977 GL1000 project bike that I was working on and I was impressed. It is nice to see "Made in the USA" on products again. If you need...

Re: 1976 GL1000 All of a sudden not running/dying

..... By "Gurgling" I was thinking you meant audible sound. re-read initial post, you were referring to bubbles in a clear fuel line. Doubtful it is air, just fuel vapors. I wouldn't worry about that, just like with a clear or translucent fuel filter, you'll never see it full of fuel unless it is p...

Re: Crankcase Breather Question

Thanks for your reply. However, I need to add a hose because when I really "push" the bike to high revs I get a spit of oil from that breather... I kept the hose as it was there. It just goes from the air filter housing to the bottom of the bike, there should be a clip that it fits into. Does your'...

Re: Crankcase Breather Question

Hi guys, I bought my 1978 GL1000 with no hose or anything connected to the Crankcase breather. What would you recommend buying? How should this look like in its original version and what would you recommend buying and connecting? Thanks, Dan My 78 only ever had a hose that went from the air filter ...

Re: Estate Sale '76 GL Sitting Since 1985

Yes, no title. No worries a little title discussion in thread. Being the bike came from an Estate, I have the trail, and in California obtaining a new title isn't too bad, I've done this a number of times. That's something I'm going to tackle in the next month or so. Timing belts have been replaced...

Re: Estate Sale '76 GL Sitting Since 1985

Thanks for the explanation, Wingadmin. Kind of like our V5 (registration document), which gets sent back to our DVLA by the seller, then a new one issued to the buyer. Apologies, Apex, for the brief hijack of your thread. Maz There are some fairly easy ways to get around the title business. One of ...

Re: Need a gut check please

Just got back from looking at it, engine is seized , brakes are shot, radiator has been patched and the gas tank full of rust, I passed, more work than I would have time for. The plastic and the exhaust are easily worth 2-3x that price alone. That's if they are in good condition. Easily could get a...

I hear what you're saying. You know what the weather in England is like! I remove mine every year, rub them down and repaint them with wood stove paint. Re: Exhaust Silencers

As I posted previously, the early black horseshoe ones are being re-manufactured by another company to very high standards, but a bit 'spendy'. My 77 stock muffler has had an occasional, intermittent rattle at certain rpms for decades. Hasn’t gotten any worse or affected anything. I don’t think you can beat the looks or sound of stock exhaust.
Right but try to find a set.

For some models, they don't exist new.

Thanks for the answers! I haven't yet asked from the paintshop if they can make the paint by using these colour codes. I have an other qustion. Re: Dummy Tank Carrier/Bag Rack

I'm no Goldwing expert, I'm learning as I go with my '76 GL. Re: Dummy Tank Carrier/Bag Rack

As can be seen from the picture of my bike (attached), it has a rack on the top of the dummy fuel tank. I have seen some GL1000 pictures with the same rack. My question is: Was this a GL1000 Honda approved accessory that was factory fitted or was it put on by an owner as an aftermarket item. I woul...

Re: Exhaust Silencers

I used Emgo reverse megaphones on my 79. No comparison to stick obviously, but still a very pleasing appearance, like they belonged on there. Slightly louder than stock, sounds it bit like an older sports car. $52 each, not a bad deal. Lots of peo-ple use HD mufflers. You can often get them for fre...
