Any word on spoke wheels modification/ possiblity?

I have a Gl1000k3 and bought spoke wheels and I'm having brake issues: are the discs a different spacing? Are there other brackets is have to get? Or would the described modification work too?
The 78 setup is different from the 75-77.

Re: GL1000 Radiator Replacement

My 1977 GL1000 developed a pinhole leak in the radiator block behind the fins near to the filler cap. I've implemented the "black pepper" fix as a temporary solution but for the longevity of the bike I'd like to get an off-the-shelf radiator to replace it with. All the GL1000 radiators I can find f...

Re: Confirmation, Please ;-)

Just went through this with member on here with a after market radiator cap. Wound up having to bend the tabs on cap to make it seal.Honda cap number 19045-692-003 fits everytime. The stock Honda thermostat 19300-611-005 is the only way to go. The hole (the jiggle wiggle)in the stock stat goes to t...

Re: Confirmation, Please ;-)

I am ready to order a radiator hose(s), cap, and thermostat for my '76 LTD. I have placed the following in my shopping cart: Gates 21008 hose Stant 10229 radiator cap and Stant 13868 thermostat I'm pretty confident in the hose recommended here, but am a bit confused about the other 2 items. The ima...

Re: 78 GL1000 project log - tank shelter question

Good morning, Over the weekend I picked up a 78 GL1000. It’s going to my next project after finishing my 78 CB550. First question is regarding the tank shelter. Can I switch out the shelter subframe for an older one and use the older tank shelter with out the gauge pod? Or is the frame itself too d...

Re: Wheel alignment seems off

I'm not sure what you mean by wheel rod, do you mean the front axle? It's installed in the correct orientation with the nut side sitting snug on the outer side of the clamps. The bars are new! I don't know about the spacer on the rear wheel, so that's where I'll look next. Yes, for some reason I bl...

Just a follow up post. While getting her back together I'd start her up and get the engine to temp. Now after doing some light for two weeks, the amount of smoking is getting less and less.

The perfect fix! 😂
Keep it on the center stand and it should never smoke.

Not that I do this.

Re: Wheel alignment seems off

I recently bought a running 78 GL1000 that seemed to be in good shape. It has low miles (16k) but I realized the steering head bearings were totally shot. The bike would drift and was difficult to steer. While I was doing that, I put drag bars on. Now, the steering feels much better, but the bike f...

Re: new to me

Welcome to the forum. Hydrolock is a big concern. But the wing fuel tank is low and has a fuel pump. Did you do a lot of "cranking" before the thump? Was tank full? Could tank have become pressurized some how? I can't remember, does the 1100 have a vacuum petcock like the 1500? Of course even if fu...

Re: new to me

Hey I just got my 1980 GL1000 last week. I tried last year to buy it but couldn't find the money, a few months back the guy found another bike and cut the price in half so I jumped on it. Moved it to my house and parked it in the shed. I had driven this bike last fall so I knew it ran good for an o...

Hi, thanks for getting back to me so quick. I found a vin number, one on the left side of the neck and one on the right side of the neck. Re: GL 1000 77

If you need an exhaust, look into putting on a set of Harley mufflers. Here, USA, they can be bought, new for less than 50 USD. I have them on my bike even tho I have an almost brand new OEM setup on hand. Very easy to install. They aren't OEM of course but will save you a fortune. Since nobody men...

If I can figure out what the forks came off of I may be able to sort where the wheels came from. There's two gold fronts on ebay right now but not really budgeted for that at the mo.
Why do you think the forks were changed?

Re: 76 GL1000 LTD Vetter

I like the look of it but the wiring is kinda bodged with extras added here and there, and the harness was scabbed into the headlight bucket that's still in place with those connectors you use to patch into existing circuits. The headlight in the Vetter barely glowed and the turn signals were dim a...

MMO? Marvel Mystery Oil? Where would I pour it? Thanks! You will have to change the timing belts, and you can rotate the engine from the...

I always suggest to see if the engine is runable before doing anything else.
Would you MMO it before trying to turn it over?

Re: Changing handle bars

Previous posts about cable lenghts are absolutely spot on, it's something you'll have to measure carefully. I recently bought a '78 that the previous owner put clubman bars on. They look sweet, but the PO didn't think about clearance, so there are two fat dings on both of the faux gas tank covers. ...

Re: Just purchased a 1975 GL1000 w/low mileage (~13k) - now what?

I also bought a gl1000 recently but was lucky enough that it was running - those carbs are no joke! You might also want to refresh the coolant - drain what's in there and top up with something new. The timing belts might seem easy but it can be a tricky job - I just did mine and I'm not sure if the...
