Re: Battery Tenders for GL1800

Battery Tender also has a digital voltmeter that plugs into the SAE plug. It has an auto off function and a button to activate it but I do not leave it attached jic. I ran the connector into the trunk with a 25 foot cord so I cab reach my tender easily. It rolls up in the trunk and I also have the B...

Re: TPMS Error

Thanks for all the replies. I’m pretty sure its the T in Boyles Law that is the culprit. I did not check the sensors because it is showing a system fault. The sensors appear to be working ok as I lowered and raised both tire pressures and they responded fine. Its just those chilly days of low 40s wh...

RIVCO Aero Pegs

Installed a pair of Rivco Aero Pegs-black on the 1800. I was going to write up an installation procedure, but with four mounting bolts and four bolts for the pegs, it was not worthwhile. I have been using them for over a week now and thought it time to report. First the Quality: 6061 (Aircraft grade...

Re: Downshifting to first gear while moving

One more response. The tranny is constant mesh so even though it is not synchromesh, downshifting into first is not a problem. As noted above, I wait until the transmission is happy about going into first. I also like to blip the throttle when downshifting with slight pressure on the shifter to try ...

Re: Is your shield high or low?

Mine is stock. I have had it all the way up since I first rode it. That position seems just about right for me in rain or shine or day or night so I will be sticking with the stock windshield. I ride with a half helmet and sun glasses or clear at night (they are safety glasses with bifocals so I can...

Re: Battery Tenders for GL1800

I'm wondering what kind of drain you have on the battery. I got my 1800 last year at the end of the riding season and it sat in "storage" for the winter. I did not put the tender hardware on it so it sat unattended for 3 months. I got to it and put the key in and it fired right up. Point is, if you ...

Emergency jump start kit. Rated to start a pickup and it has started several Harleys so far. Got the Whistler unit as they are located in the next town.

Re: GL1800 Brake Light Switch Adjustment

First, I have not made any adjustments to the switch. I found the spring loaded contacter was stuck and I released it. The brake lights were on solid so I just kept flipping the contactor until the brake lights worked properly, which they still do. It looks like the rear contact point is not closing...

The jr is all you need to keep the battery topped off. I have several Juniors but replaced them with the four output station to accommodate all the toys.

Re: Hi From Hemet, CA

My first Goldwing was a '95SE. I used an ounce of Startron Starbrite in every other tank, as I do with my 1800. I got 35-40 mpg typically although it went as high as 50 on an extended 55mph run and as low as 32 on a more than normal interstate tank. Once you get over 3000 rpm, the mileage drops like...

UPDATE: I found the manual online at www.service-shop-repair-manual.com/

61MCA66 shop manual with ETM. 2012-2017 GL1800 GL1800A $89 plus shipping ($8)

I will wait to get it and thoroughly review the procedure before attempting to screw it up more.

GL1800 Brake Light Switch Adjustment

OK, I am a dope. Installed Kury floorboards the other day. I wish they had given the warning about the brake shaft first. Although I was careful with it I still managed to screw up the switch. I did not adjust it but I did fiddle with it until the brake lights functioned properly. Now the cruise doe...

TPMS Error

I bought my GL1800 a year ago. I only got 600+ miles on it before the weather got too bad to ride but I did notice one thing. The TPMS system light came on several times. Not the tire pressure light but the system light. I thought that if it persisted after the spring thaw I would take it back to th...

Did anybody stop to think that when you put the Goldwing in reverse it mutes the speakers?

It sounds like a connector got reversed.

Re: sticky switches

I had the same issue with my 1500. Like the other posts, I used Electrical Contact Cleaner spray profusely. I took several applications but finally they all cleared up. Much better than taking them apart and losing all those little doo-dads. And yes, protect the body parts from all the overspray and...

Re: SocalMotoGear Pathfinder LED Headlights

I had the pathfinders on my 1500 and they were fantastic. The 1800 seemed to have good lights (halogens) so I was in no rush to change them. I installed the pathfinders in the low beams today and it was a snap. WOW!!! Bright Light! Now I would like to do the high beams but I could barely get my hand...

Re: Rear brake and gas mileage

The brake question has been answered. As far as mileage goes, I have a 21 mile commute, 15 of it on the interstate. At 5:30AM traffic is light and I can travel any speed I like. If I leave later, traffic is heavier and I tend to ride faster (about 5mph or less more than the "travel" lane). That said...

Re: tires

GL1500 was designed for bias ply tires. I have heard of some mixing radial and bias but I would not recommend it. I had good luck with Dunlop E3's on my 1500 (the local Honda shop had them in stock). It a personal thing so check around, I have heard good things about avon (venom)tires too. Search ar...

Re: Oil filters for a 2015 GL

First, let's realize that the filter and the oil are a team. They work in tandem. I can remember when Fram and Castrol were the team to use. Times change, teams change, they adapt and improve and make trades. Having an Engineering background, I too wanted some empirical data to determine the best "t...

I put the utopia on my new ride. I didn't want the bars on the others so I opted for through the seat. I ruined a 1500 seat so I had a local uphosterer install this one for $100 and priceless piece of mind. He did a super job and now my back can last.

Re: GL1800 trys to stall

I am a novice with fuel injection but.... I had a '95 Mercedes E300 which has a 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine. This engine had zero pickup. I brought it to a very good Mercedes mechanic and he rebuilt the fuel pump. Voila! It seems that the fuel injection system requires a very high pressure to ope...

Don't worry about the buttons. They are only there for the frills. Throttle, clutch, brakes, shifter all the same as any other bike and that's what makes it go.

Its new to you but still 14 years young. Could be a lot of things. My first thought is to check the locking mechanism for binding, then make sure the top and bottom halves are aligned. I say this because you rode it and it locked up. Maybe a bump in the road caused everything to align so that the la...

Re: 2014 gl1800 remote trunk release not working

How full is the trunk? If there is something inside that is putting pressure on the locking mechanism it will not open. Try pressing down on the trunk while to press the button, if it opens then there is pressure on the latch.

Nowadays they call them power outlets and I haven't followed their dimensions. I did notice that when I put Sirius/xm in my (former) 1995 Mercedes and the 1999 that followed it (still have it and its still for sale, both turbo diesel) that the sirius power plug fit very loose in the socket and I had...
