Re: Continuing starting problems

On my '16 the starter does not work with the kill switch engaged. Where you found a partially eaten air filter, my first suspicion is that some residue found its way into the fuel system and possibly the cylinders. I would first check the plugs for fouling and if possible use an inspection camera to...

Re: Lighting system issues

Remember that the bike is 37 years old. Its had a lot of time to get corroded. Also, if the PO added too many lights it could have overloaded a circuit (or circuits) to blow the fuses. You can also use the aforementioned test lights as a rudimentary ohm meter. Test a fully charged battery and observ...

Re: Gl 1500 engine wont stay running

Just for s... and giggles, check your voltage at idle to make sure its charging. RPMs need to be 800-900 to charge the battery at idle. The volts should be 14.8 +/- to charge and if it falls below 12 (at idle) then the battery is discharging and once its below 11 the engine will die and seem as if i...

Re: 1500 Headlight Question

As I said, I have SoCal LEDs in the Tundra. Well, last week one burnt out. I have taken it out to check it because its such a pita. I emailed Tim at SoCalMotogear and told him about it and also that I was looking to get the LED light kit for the rear of the 1800. I got a reply in a few minutes and t...

Re: Tragedy in New Hampshire.

I am tending toward blaming the Mass RMV. They have a backlog of over a THOUSAND of these exact same incidents. That's over a thousand more of these very same idiots still on the road! The new acting head of the RMV has started into the back log but I consider this unforgiveable action to be "Token"...

Re: totally off topic

I have owned Toyotas since the 80s and haven't seen this one. It sounds like a blockage in or near the core. Since you have replaced the core I would look for the temperature control valve and make sure its clear. If a PO had used some type of stop leak it could be gummed up somewhere near the heate...

Re: 1500 Headlight Question

I'm with WA on this one. I had pathfinders in my 1500, have them in my 1800 and the SoCalMotogear equivalent in my Tundra. I started with an upgrade to HIDs in the 1500 (SoCal) and when one prematurely died, they sent me a pair of beta pathfinders to "try". End of story If you have seen LEDs that ar...

Re: Tragedy in New Hampshire.

Nothing new on today's news. Mass RMV blaming CT RMV and vice versa for this POS. There was a vigil in Whitman yesterday with over 3,000 in attendance. GoFundMe page has over 500K with a goal of 700K. Full details on boston25news.com So far I have tried to post just some info keeping my personal tho...

Re: Tragedy in New Hampshire.

Just caught the 5 AM news on FOX25 Boston. Here's what I remember: Arrested for OUI in 2013. Involved in a crash in May in Connecticut. He failed field sobriety test and refused chemical tests but for some reason his CDL was not lifted. He was also involved in a wreck in Baytown Texas but not sure w...

Re: Tragedy in New Hampshire.

5:00 news today (Fox 25); 7 Counts negligent homicide. Pleaded not guilty and waived his right to appear at hearing which is allowed in NH. He was previously involved in a crash near Springfield working for a different company but was not charged. Also suspected of drug possession in February 2019. ...

Re: Tragedy in New Hampshire.

I'm right here in the middle of it. The latest is the truck driver is 23 years old and it was his second run for the company. He has been arrested and charged but I don't know with what. He also has 2 OUIs on his record. How did he get a license let alone a job driving a truck? He may not need or ha...

Re: Am I the only one who doesn't like backrests

My first addition to the 1800 was a Utopia. After 50 miles, I need it if I want to be able to stand when I get off. Had one on my 1500 too. If only I could get one on the kawi I would be afraid of slipping off when I goose it at 3500 rpm. 44 yrs old and still a screamer (the bike, not me).

Re: Riding with joint replacement

OK, Had arthroscopic for a torn meniscus yesterday, that happened two weeks prior to completing PT for the knee replacement. NOW I hear its fairly common, wish I had heard it sooner. I don't know why they gave me a script for oxycodone because I have very little pain. About the same amount as before...

Re: Drivers test bike

In 1967 still in high school on a hand-me-down tired (4th iteration) Super 90. It would still hit 50-55mph downhill with a stiff tailwind. Shortly afterward I bought a barely used 305 Super Hawk with 300 miles on it. I got head-on'd by a Chevy Caprice in '69 who took a left while I was in the middle...

Re: Riding with joint replacement

To clarify, I am referring to your knee replacement, not the hip. It was explained to me that hips are ball and sockets where the knee is tendons and ligaments so hip recovery is quicker. You will still need to finish knee therapy to get your range of movement maximized. At 3 months I was 120+ degre...

Re: Riding with joint replacement

After losing 95% of last year's riding to a severely torn meniscus I had a total right knee replacement on December 12, 2018. I was a up and around in two weeks and after following Doc and PT's instructions, I spent the month of March at the Silver Dollar Shooters Club in Florida shooting over 4,000...

Just to make sure I got it right, this is copied from the Evans website: "Evans Powersports is a proprietary blend of glycols and inhibitors formulated to be used without water. Evans waterless coolants are compatible with Samco Hoses." Glycols are dissoluble in water. They are compatible and will f...

Re: waterless antifreeze

Its been a while since I actually used my Chemistry knowledge but here goes. First, water boils at 212 F and freezes at 32 F right? OK. Adding antifreeze RAISES the boiling point and lowers the freezing point right? For this conversation we will ignore the freezing part as it is not pertinent. Next,...

Re: TPMS

I bought my new in the fall of 2016. In the first month or so before the snow and road salt fell the TPMS would give low pressure indications (the pressures were spot on) and I got sporadic TPS failure messages. This also started up when I started riding the following spring, but before I could get ...

Re: Battery Amps

I think you mean what setting should you use on a charger to charge a motorcycle battery from 25%. Bike batteries are relatively small so high ampere outputs from a charger can damage the battery. The best I can tell you is to use a 1 amp trickle charge overnight to bring the battery up to full char...
