Re: New Goldwing owner

Oh ya, I forgot the most important part. Pay close attention to the removal of the Tupperware (plastic body panels) as you can only put them back on in the EXACT same order. I spent two hours changing the belts and two DAYS getting the Tupperware back on because I thought I remembered how I took the...

Re: Hauling an 1800 across country

I did the rest but you're darn right. The stand went right through the plywood, and it wasn't even resting on it as I neglected to swing it up. Luckily no damage to the frame.

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

Stew (and forum), I am 66 years old. I have said this in other threads so I'll be brief (as I can). I started in my teens with a Super (in 68) 90, then a 305 Super Hawk (in 69), and CL450, Yamaha 650, then spent years providing for a family. More recently an 1100 Shadow ACE and a 750 Magna. I test r...

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

1. I believe but not positive that the 2 second shut down is common for both. The DCT has a automatic parking brake for when stopped. 2. Final drive ratios are the same for DCT and 6 speed I priced an airbag model on the Honda Powersports site and with options including rider backrest, storage pads ...

Re: Hauling an 1800 across country

Yes. I was lucky, only a hole in the plywood floor of the trailer, because it was strapped down properly (other than the stand).

Re: Hauling an 1800 across country

Couple of things to remember when renting a uhaul. The one-way rates are based on several factors including the work load to your destination and from your starting point. The beginning and end of months are the busiest times and one-way rates are higher. Try to stick to mid-month. Stay away from ho...

Re: Hauling an 1800 across country

Being an authorized U-Haul Dealer and a Goldwing owner, I can tell you that U-Haul's biggest van trailer, the 6x12 tandem axle (the RV), does not have sufficient door height (only 50") to load a 'wing into it, nor does it have a ramp and you can't rock the bike into it. They do have a 6x12 (open) Ra...

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

OK, its time for me to chime in. I have been reading the "99%" panning the new wing. I bought my 2016 wing a year ago now because I figured: how can they make it better? add Bluetooth? I read all the conjecture about the new front end, suspension etc. and went ahead with my purchase. Now that I have...

Re: Winter Covers

Mine is in an enclosed trailer as well (box truck body with good rubber seals) and safe from the road salt. I DO NOT take it out once salt is on the road and I wait until the snow melts and we have two good rains to wash the salt off the roadways. I have missed some good riding, but no road salt is ...

Re: Winter Covers

I agree completely with having a floor. Here in the northeast we will be getting plenty of snow. I don't know how much snow, wind and rain you will be getting, but I don't like anything touching the bike itself as something like a cover can cause scratches if there is any kind of dirt or contaminant...

Re: Heartbroken...rust

Regardless, a new bike should not rust this fast. I suspect something else is afoot! Go to dealer and Honda. Research the weather and find if there was any flooding/storm(s) that could initiate such a problem.

Ditto, next on the agenda, either the Sena Freewire, or a 2018 'wing, whichever costs more.

Re: I-Phone music problem

I'm pretty sure that when connected in the trunk, it treats the iPhone as an iPod, bypassing the iTunes and directly playing the music on the phone. That's why I don't use it anymore. As far has having another app going, I can't speak to that as I haven't tried it.

Re: I-Phone music problem

If you use the USB connector in the trunk, the system treats it as an ipod. You can only play the music. (period) And you can control it with the controls on the left side bar, If you want to use other features, you need to use the AUX input in the left hand front pocket. If you do not have one, you...

Re: 2” Receiver Hitch for 1800

Again, thanks for the help. I have pretty much decided to go with the Kuryakyn hitch. I may install a harness when I do the install, JIC, but that's still up in the air as I have no intentions of towing a trailer. As they are all 1.25" receiver I would need an adapter to go to the 2" Boone carrier. ...

Re: RIVCO Aero Pegs

I tried estimating the location myself but as I was alone, I had to resort to trial and error. They make it so easy to set them its wasn't really a bother. I have to admit that in the warmer weather and using the foot warmers, I wear sneaker/sandals most of the time. Below about 45 I switch over to ...

Re: 2” Receiver Hitch for 1800

Once again, pardon my ignorance. I am also a U-Haul dealer and have installed many hitches on four-wheelers. I don't know the first thing about how to install one on a bike. My installations are custom hitches built for the vehicle, which have mounting holes for the hitches. What kind of mounting sy...

2” Receiver Hitch for 1800

First, pardon my ignorance on this issue. Second, I have no plans on towing anything with my ‘wing. BUT..... I am retiring this year and I am buying a toyhauler trailer to bring my goldwing with me. Why am I not riding it you ask? I will be but I’m also an avid ATA Trap shooter so I will be bringing...

Re: Battery Tenders for GL1800

Battery Tender also has a digital voltmeter that plugs into the SAE plug. It has an auto off function and a button to activate it but I do not leave it attached jic. I ran the connector into the trunk with a 25 foot cord so I cab reach my tender easily. It rolls up in the trunk and I also have the B...
