If I recall correctly, ‘97 onwards have a much stouter shift fork system (taken from the Valkyrie), not subject to the shift fork failures of earlier models. That’s why I chose my ‘97 SE.
this is true plus the rear driveshaft is stronger for the 97 and later.

Re: Do I Have Reverse?

How do I tell if I have the Reverse function on my 1992 GL1500 Interstate? The bike has been triked but that shouldn't affect the Reverse function. I do have a side lever under the seat on the left side. Also, how does this Reverse function work and can it be added to a bike? I see that you are in ...

Re: Quick and Easy Method for Bead Breaking

that works pretty well most of the time, but I think you have your "amount of force" calculated a bit heavy. that car, at most weighs 3,000 lbs? / 4 wheels, = 750 lbs per wheel? assuming equal weight distribution per wheel. did you have any trouble with the wheel scooting away from the board as you ...

Re: fuel pump maybe

do NOT ever connect a jumper to that fuel pump B+ lead until AFTER you disconnect that jumper.

if you don't, you will fry the ECM

connect a 3 ft peice of hose to the pump outlet, jumper the B+ lead.
it should pump a cup full of fuel in 15 seconds or less.

the output pressure is less than 4 lbs,

Thanks and you’re welcome. Here is the original part number for the 2001 ECM #38770-MCA-671. It will likely be subbed to the current number, which who knows what that might be today.
any of the ECMs from 2001 to 2005 will work.

I put a 2004 ECM in my 2002 and it runs like new.

Normal set of the cruise is in either 4th or 5th gear. But it will not set the speed above 80mph. (There is a workaround to overcome this if you go through the messages.) Go into the gears, and you can set the cruise control at any speed that will support those gears (about 30mph) and you can set i...

Re: Choke on by mistake... broke few plugs

I have run my 1500s for much longer distances than that with the "choke" on, and it never caused the damage that you seem to have.

Usually though, I would notice the Mixture control being down, and just slide it back up and off.
that burns off the extra fuel on the plugs.

Re: 2008 GL1800 surge issue" cold or warm"

From my perspective, that is "normal". here is my reasoning why. at idle, hands off, all is okay. but touch that throttle just a smidge, like while setting at the Red Light, you "think you have backed off the throttle" but you actually are pushing it forward ever so little. my 2002 does exactly what...

Yes it does. I gave you a remote, did you try it? If it didn't work probably some broken wires in the harness by the right trunk hinge.
I tried it, didn't work at the time, been meaning to get further into it.
