Re: Camping Crime

I use the "out of sight, out of mind" principle.... cover the bike with a half cover, then throw a very ragged full cover over that, big enough to tie under the bike's belly..... the trailer is padlocked at night..... during the day, my jacket and helmet are left on the bike if I am sort of close by...

Re: PTFE, Graphite, White Lithium, Silicone

there is a lubricant Ive used for many years on throttle cables etc its called Inox mx3 lubricant with injector needle. the oil is very fine, and the injector needle allows oil flow between the sheath and cable, which mean as long as you can access the top the cables, you should be able to lubricat...

Mobil1 0W-40.JPGMobil 1 Synthetic motor oil 0W-40 has no friction modifiers in it, because the bottom half of the circle on the back is blank.
then it will work just fine.... you and the bike will enjoy it.

makes it easier to start on those frigid -20 degree mornings :D

Re: Engine oil

yes,

I am using 5w40 full synthetic

if the tranny shifts fine, go for it.

EDIT: is the bottom half of the circle on the back a blank?
e.g, no friction modifiers in it?

I am using Rotella T6 in 5w40 with no issues at all.

Re: Question about engine

the bike is in neutral and when I rock it back and forth it turns about the same as by hand. This statement doesn't make sense to me. If you mean rocking the bike back and forth, if it really is in neutral that would not move the crank in any direction. It sounds to me like the engine is still in g...

Re: Gears

a little test to prove this,

while riding the bike at 20 or 30 mph, leave the clutch lever alone, and twist the throttle wide open.

if the engine revs up wildly and the bike is not accelerating at the same rate, the clutch is slipping

Re: Gears

It's the clutch dosnot seem to have the pressure I understand that to mean, that the clutch is slipping and even though you push the RPMs up to 3000 or more, the bike does not accelerate like it should? if that is the case, the plates might be slipping, or the master cylinder bleed hole might be pl...

Hi my gl1500 kicks into gear normally but I have to review slot for it to move. It's like it has no pulling power. Any ideas please.. you have lost me, don't know what you are saying "review slot" ?? from a stop, it should drop into 1st gear with a good solid thunk, depending on oil temperature ( c...

Re: PTFE, Graphite, White Lithium, Silicone

I've used Dri-Slide for years. It's a moly lube. Might be available in your area? https://www.drislide.com/products/drislide-bike-aid-moly-lubricant-w-needle IF, the cable is dry, no crap left over from previous owners trying to lube it with something.... then DriSlide does a very good job. Re: PTFE, Graphite, White Lithium, Silicone

CRC makes a very good silicone based product that works great in outdoor stuff, I use it to lube the mailbox lock on my Rural mailbox.... it is subject to the vagaries of wind, rain, ice, etc. CRC 2-26 5 oz. Multi-Purpose Lubricant-02004 in the USA it is carried in all of the Big Box stores, very ch...

Re: 2002 GL1800 Owners check in !

The 2001 through the 2005 have smaller radiators than the 2006 and later. This makes them prone to overheating on warm days when traveling at less than 25 MPH, particularly up hill or in stop and go traffic. that has only bothered me one time, got caught in St. Louis once in a traffic jam, it got u...

2002 here with 114,000 miles.
no issues currently,
did have one Knock Sensor problem, required the ECM to be replaced ( nearly always the case )

runs like new,
just wants to be on the road all the time.... ;)

Previous owner was meticulous with service, I have all the documentation from him.

Re: Dyna Beads vs Counteract Balancing Beads

I think that I will add a couple oz of Dyna Beads to them just to keep them in "fine tune" Your truck tires may take a bit more than a couple of ounces. You might take a look at the Dyna Bead site to determine the proper amount of beads based on the tire size. http://innovativebalancing.com/index.p...

Re: Dyna Beads vs Counteract Balancing Beads

There are also balance rings for bikes - specifically Goldwings - not my old 83 but 1800s for sure. I prefer the Dynabeads in my truck tires as they handle more of the side-to-side balancing were as the Counteract will shift to one side of a tire and stay there until you slow down or stop. I just f...

just get an AGM from any of the manufacturers and be done with it.
the bigger the CCA, the better,

the one I have now is labeled something like "MOTO"..... forget the rest of it,
works just fine.

Except for the Dyna Beads tendency to be super fine, and wanting to go "every where" if let loose,

Beads are Beads....
any of them will work the same.

at our local convenience store, a new owner took over recently and he decided to put 91 non-ethanol fuel in the 91 octane tank. As the pumps only have one (1) hose, I questioned him as to how much fuel is in the hose between the nozzle and the valves that switch to 87, 89 and 91. He was real honest ...
