Re: This happened today...

that is a fact!

that is why I always approach intersections wig wagging lane edge to lane edge....
sideways motion will catch their eyes.

straight on, you are invisible.

Re: oil level

I just pour in the 5 quarts, seal it up, and go ride it for 5,000 miles.

never a problem that way.

but, my bike has never had a leak, nor has it ever used oil in between changes.
and so far, it is only 114,000 miles young

it is aggravating when images come up that way....
I have GIMP set to "auto rotate" so when I get thru with an image, it is always right side up.

Michelin Alpin Primacy RF ZP tire, brand new for GL1800s

I have a spare tire in my shop that has never seen the sunlight yet. still wrapped in the shipper's tape. Why I bought it, I don't know, thought I would need a spare. Well, that time is going to be 10 years from now it looks like, because the current tire has 10,000 miles on it and looks just like i...

Re: Dark side, run flat or standard?

From personal experience, having a Michelin RF ZP tire, the Alpin Primacy, you definitely want to find a tire with a Rounded Profile.... the tire I have is much too flat and square on the bottom, and it takes effort to make it stay in a turn in the twisties. doable, of course, and I am used to it, b...

yep,

sure is, that is a high revving engine, note where the Red Line is.....

that engine will happily turn 5,000 rpm all day long and get almost 50 mpg doing it

now that is good improvement.

my bike came with an aftermarket kickstand with the pad about 3X bigger than normal.

rarely does it ever sink into the asphalt.

Re: Motor seized

it can sit outside for 30 years with the plugs out, and you can still recover it. My brother did just that to a Chevy 350 V8 with the intake manifold removed. it sat under the drain spout to his race car shop for right at 30 years, considered to be useless as it did not make 1,000 hp when the pulled...

Re: Max load on trunk rack?

between 10 and 15 lbs. a lot of folks have discovered why that is true, and especially if the rack mounts do NOT have the large washers to spread out the strain on the ABS... it is brittle. For me, maybe put the bike covers, and a rain suit stuff into a canvas bag and leave it go at that. if it feel...

Looking forward to meeting everyone and enjoying SE OH and W-Va. For you guys that have never been to W-Va, you won't be seeing it all on this Ride. If you flattened W-Va out,... it would be as Big as Texas! or as small as the closest buck that wants to jump the bramble bush and total our your ride...

I will 2nd all the responses saying to StayOffTheBrakes!!! going downhill.

they get hot, and then they are useless when you suddenly need them.

Always use the transmission and downshift to an appropriate gear to control speed.

Re: Darkside pressure question???

that is something you just have to experiment with.

on my 1800 at I started at 58 psi, dropped it in stages until it was at 34 psi.
that tire is a RF ZP and has very stiff sidewalls.

not familiar with your tire, if it is not a RF, you will need more air pressure for proper handling.

Re: Long trip, what parts would you bring?

I have all of the above minus the OEM toolkit which is worthless. I went to Harbor Freight and bought a small heavy denim tool pouch that zips closed. then bought the few hand tools needed, a 1/4 deep metric sockets, and a set of 3/8" deep sockets, a special ratchet with a double sided bit - 1/4 and...

Re: Stay hydrated in the heat!

Yes, the Camelbak is a good one to use. For riding in hot weather, i'd use it as a supplement to drinking Gatorade/Powerade, as you don't want to drink TOO much plain water. As you've said, good for between stops to keep refreshed. What I would do, fill completely full with ice, then top off with w...

it is cooling to 74* on 100* days, so it must be okay. the 1st week out with it, we set the stat at 66 and woke up about mid-morning freezing our buns off. the blankets we had were more like sheets   my daughter got up and rolled that stat back to 74 and said "that is where it stays" :D :D

Re: Need info: Dometic RV Roof Top A/C

The vent that comes directly from the unit is the one I was refering to as the quick cool vent. It's normally just to knock the heat down a bit so you can tolerate being inside, then it should be closed so the cool air can pass through the ductwork and spread it throughout the trailer. I'll check m...

Re: Dyna Beads vs Counteract Balancing Beads

I’ve never looked at the inside of a right angled fill stem, but it looks like the beads could collect in the metal tube portion and create problems as it could use up quite a few beads on that side. I see Dyna sells a straight valve with a screen/filter on it to prevent this on straight stems. Any...

Re: Do you look thru

At 6' 2" I've always looked over. With the OEM I almost have to lay on the tank to see through (which I have done in bad rain, and sleet storms in Chicago). Out here in New Mexico the extra air flow across the face and helmet are absolutely necessary on days when the thermometer on the dash shows t...

When I put my Michelin car tire on, I decided to err on the high side, and weighed out 4 oz for it.

put 2 oz in the front tire.

buying in bulk is the ticket.

Re: Need info: Dometic RV Roof Top A/C

Is this running in the toy hauler? If so, are you running it with the quick cool vent open all the time? Even if there's little humidity, the condenser can freeze up reducing your cooling air to nothing. Use the quick cool vent to get things moving toward cool, then shut that vent and let the cool ...
