Re: Battery Amps

Better yet, get yourself a Battery Tender Jr and keep it connected to the battery whenever not in use to keep the battery topped off. Plus 2 on this... My Battery Tender once brought my gl1800's battery up from 9.5 vdc to full charge, and it did it overnight... that one is a 1.25 Amp charger. I hav...

Re: Northwest Territories this Spring

I had my jeep up to Dawson City a couple summers ago, the plan was to get to Inuvik, the extension to Tuktoyaktuk was finished but not open at that time. Personally, I would only take an enduro capable bike on the Dempster Highway. Rain makes it very muddy and its infamous for puncturing tires and ...

Re: Chronicles of a Motorcycle Gypsy: The 49 States Tour

One thing, though, that kind of drives me nuts is the apparent lack of competent editing, especially correcting the many places where a word is used that sounds like the one she wanted to use, but has a completely different meaning. "Poured" is virtually always used where the word "pored" should ha...

Re: 12” MadStad on 1999 GL1500

I also have a '99 GL1500, and the PO had installed a very tall windshield on it. I'm 6'2" and I have to stand on the pegs to see over it. I get a lot of buffeting, especially at the back of my head, when riding. I found this review very interesting, but when I went to the Madstad website, I noticed...

Re: GPS to Goldwing input device

Thanks For the help. BrianD, you lost me with the Bluetooth receiver. Let me run this by you. The input device (sold on this forum) plugs into the BT receiver? The receiver then pairs with your phone and thus into your headset. Is this correct? I looked up BT receivers and got more confused. They a...

Re: the new SPOT X satellite transponder

I picked up the Spot X. Still working on learning the ins and outs of it but I like it so far. I have sent a text email message out and it took approximately 4 minutes to show up on my phone. Just downloaded the user manual since the manual with it isn't that informative. I am in the process of add...

I was browsing that link again and saw one that mentioned "Trace".

Hmmmm, I thought someone had to trace their friend/family member.

nope, he had his SPOT hidden on the bike and wired direct to the battery.

The SPOT left little dog droppings right to the thief's home.

Re: Timing Belt Change

A 18" piece of wood with 2 screws about 2-3/4" apart can be used to rotate the cam pulleys easily. (there's a pic on the other forum posting about this "tool") You don't necessarily need to clamp them, just be careful of alignment as you place the new belt. here is the pictures he mentioned. https:...

A note here on me making screenshots of my tracks... I like to do screenshots of my old tracks, to see where I actually ended up going.

it is interesting to use the tracks later to compare routes to where I've been, and what I have missed.

You will NEVER regret that decision. It just gives you a bit of a warmer feeling, knowing that IF, for some reason, which none of us expects to have happen, we end up with face down, and the ELT transponder within finger's reach.... and your cellphone can't get a signal, that is if, it survived the ...

SPOT also has links to allow you to download the whole trip ( page at a time )

here is the end of day portion in a CSV format that I upload into Office.
Note that the beacon reports are almost exactly in 10 minute intervals.

I am very aware of how many people will put a negative down just because they can. If it's one or two I pay no heed but these seem to be fairly evenly distributed so I was just looking for a little more info from people who are using them. The Delorme is out of my price range at this time. I have a...

Re: Running Higher gears at slower speeds

Sweet and short... if I am just lightly cruising and not pulling steep hills, I let it down to 30 mph in 5th gear and just ease on the throttle when I want to go. the flat six is a torque monster, it simply just don't care. If, on the other hand, you have a need to "get out of here fast", you need t...
