Re: GL1800 cooling fan wiring modification kit

I have an '02 and have ridden it on the toll roads at 85+ for hours on end pulling the trailer in my Avatar ( a Square Box ), and the temp gauge never got above the middle of the scale.... Certainly never even close to the red line. I suspicion, as you do, some physical problem in the cooling system...

Re: So I learned the hard way....sometimes it pays to buy new original parts....

Thanks guys for your feedback. Cyclemax and Partzilla for sure, about to order stuff from them both soon. Far as seat covers go, no need, my new used seat is fine as is. I don't care for the sloppy, loose look of those aftermarket seat covers anyway. New seats still available for $245 so its reason...

That computer in turn backs up everything (encrypted) over the Internet to BackBlaze, which is a cloud backup service. Backblaze is $5 a month for unlimited storage. I take full advantage of this, storing many terabytes of data on their servers for $5/month. Should the absolute worst happen, even i...

Re: Bike/Trailer wobble

I appreciate all the input. When I pulled the trailer, it was empty so all y'all are saying is making a lot of sense. I will start working on the suggestions. Thanks again. Gary earlier when I posted, I should have used my bike's tow behind trailer as an example.... same is true for all trailers th...

Re: So I learned the hard way....sometimes it pays to buy new original parts....

I've had my '97 for 6 years now. I've bought a lot of parts and accessories. My experience is that the 2 Go-To places for both parts and accessories, is Partzilla and Cyclemax. Both have very good inventory, and pricing is as good as it gets on virtually every item I have needed. It saves a lot of ...

Re: put away for winter

That made me laugh Dave, reminds me of me at times. My garage is only 8' wide but 60' long. Decide to go out for the day on Big Blue (I am retired so can do this almost every day, part of the reason Big Blue hibernates early). Move SWMBOs Land Rover from in front of the garage, uncover my car and g...

Re: Bike/Trailer wobble

I'm by no means an expert on trailer towing with a bike, but I've got over 40 years experience towing with cars and trucks. If bikes follow the same "rules" then you need to make sure that the tongue weight is between 12% and 17% of the total trailer weight - trying to stay closer to the upper end....

so sorry to hear about your loss, my particular home insurance policy gives me $30,000 for outside inventory in, or around my shop building. for my motorcycles though, I have always carried "Replacement Value" on my Goldwings.... and in 2008 that proved to be a very good thing, as I got a check for ...

Re: Bazzaz or Power Commander install to fix stumble and surging?

my 2002 only gives the 'off idle' surging if my hand is laying on the throttle while stopped waiting for a traffic light.

I have learned to either get off the throttle, or to raise the rpm a bit and it stops that.

Re: put away for winter

Just got back in the house. Ole man winter is breathing down my neck, so, poured a gallon of RV antifreeze in the 25 gallon weed killer sprayer tank, powered up the pump and let it run until the concrete turned pink. coiled up the power cord, and the sprayer line on the High Pressure power washer......

Re: Camping Crime

I use the "out of sight, out of mind" principle.... cover the bike with a half cover, then throw a very ragged full cover over that, big enough to tie under the bike's belly..... the trailer is padlocked at night..... during the day, my jacket and helmet are left on the bike if I am sort of close by...

Re: PTFE, Graphite, White Lithium, Silicone

there is a lubricant Ive used for many years on throttle cables etc its called Inox mx3 lubricant with injector needle. the oil is very fine, and the injector needle allows oil flow between the sheath and cable, which mean as long as you can access the top the cables, you should be able to lubricat...

Mobil1 0W-40.JPGMobil 1 Synthetic motor oil 0W-40 has no friction modifiers in it, because the bottom half of the circle on the back is blank.
then it will work just fine.... you and the bike will enjoy it.

makes it easier to start on those frigid -20 degree mornings :D

Re: Engine oil

yes,

I am using 5w40 full synthetic

if the tranny shifts fine, go for it.

EDIT: is the bottom half of the circle on the back a blank?
e.g, no friction modifiers in it?

I am using Rotella T6 in 5w40 with no issues at all.

Re: Question about engine

the bike is in neutral and when I rock it back and forth it turns about the same as by hand. This statement doesn't make sense to me. If you mean rocking the bike back and forth, if it really is in neutral that would not move the crank in any direction. It sounds to me like the engine is still in g...

Re: Gears

a little test to prove this,

while riding the bike at 20 or 30 mph, leave the clutch lever alone, and twist the throttle wide open.

if the engine revs up wildly and the bike is not accelerating at the same rate, the clutch is slipping

Re: Gears

It's the clutch dosnot seem to have the pressure I understand that to mean, that the clutch is slipping and even though you push the RPMs up to 3000 or more, the bike does not accelerate like it should? if that is the case, the plates might be slipping, or the master cylinder bleed hole might be pl...
