Re: Tire plug question.

Bias tires are more tolerant to this kind of repair than radial. Good advice from Crystolpistol to potentially "save" the tire once you make it home, if there is lots of life left in it...
Back road, easy cruising speed should be fine.

Re: Beating an old Horse

Thanks for the reply... I totally agree with the smiles per gallon. I am really enjoying riding with the sidecar on the twisty coastal roads of Nova Scotia! I think I am going to stop worrying about my mileage and accept the fact that my rig is running as it should. Now I have to figure out how to i...

Re: How low is low MPG?

I put the K&N air filter back in properly cleaned and relubed. I just got the seals for the head cover so I will start by replacing the one for the rear cover has it looks like my oil is leaking. Very small leak but I want it fix before going for longer ride. With the OEM filter you have to use a se...

Re: Beating an old Horse

aj1500,
I have a Austone taxi tire on my 1990 / CSC FIII which is longer than the stock one. Happy with the tire but my mileage is about 29 miles/G and gets worse on highway at 60 65 miles/hours...
What mileage do you get with your rig? Just curious...

This one goes on my winter list for sure... A freebie $ wise and I second your logic.

Re: Intermittent vibration

Myself I would be heading for the heat shield around / behind the exhaust pipes. The tabs which keep them in place tends to break over time and the heat shield will make a vibrating noise. Mine probably do but I replaced the original mufflers with a set from an Harley... No more "vibration" noise to...

Re: Rear Master Rebuild - Seal direction and hose

Correct, the bump must face toward the "outside" of the master cylinder, ie: toward the pushrod. Otherwise it will restrict the piston returning to its home position and not clearing the pressure relief hole. Not sure about the mystery seal for the clutch master cylinder. It is on my winter list to ...

Re: Rear Master Rebuild - Seal direction and hose

As to the orientation of the main seal, you're correct. The small end of the spring get inside the seal. The flat face of the seal rest against the flat end of the piston...

Re: Rear Master Rebuild - Seal direction and hose

Correct. It must be compatible with brake fluid DOT4. Fuel line won't cut it! Personally I would go to OEM part I would also suggest replacing the O ring between the connector for this hose and the body of the master cylinder. At the end of the push rod, there is a "washer" with a little dome on it....

Re: Air Filter: K&N or OEM...

Correct thebruce. The bike did run idle for a while when I was playing around with my air filter. Went for a ride today and will check it again. I guess I will leave everything alone for now. Good throttle response as far I as know, taking in consideration that this is the only 1500 I have ever ridd...

Re: Clutch lever toast?

I used K&L to rebuilt my rear brake caliper in March 2017. Made in Japan. Probably a little more than 10K kms on them and no issues with it.
On the clutch master cylinder, I only replaced the brass bushing and the boot with OEM parts.
You will get what showing on the pictures...

Re: Clutch lever toast?

The brass bushing should have no play in the lever neither should the shaft for the lever itself! You may want to check that the shaft is not worn out causing your lateral play. I have replaced mine with an 1800 lever. Direct replacement for the clutch side and you get the adjustment. You can get th...

Re: Air Filter: K&N or OEM...

Went to the shop real quick to look at #6 plug... Not sure what to think. The electrodes seem to be OK while the outer body is quite black. So here are some pictures. Looking for some input. So the K&N is back in after a good clean-up, overnight drying time and relub. Should do me for the rest of the season. Re: Frustrating day in the garage

Check step #42 in the "How-to replace the front wheels bearings". It is very clear as to what to do and more importantly NOT to do. One bearing is driven all the way, the next one until it barely makes contact with the spacer... Very classic way to mount bearings for this kind of application. Good l...

Re: Air Filter: K&N or OEM...

Could have done that first... Went on Babbitts online fiches and there is a seal in both the bottom half and the uppper half. Part # 17213-MN5-300. Well that solve this part of my question. What about K&N versus OEM. Should I relub my K&N (I do have a K&N cleaning kit on hand) or get a couple of sea...

Air Filter: K&N or OEM...

I usually much prefer OEM part over after market, especially when it comes to filter of any kind! So I had replaced the K&N air filter with an OEM early on when I was getting my 1990 SE ready to go back on the road. Recently I did the "cardboard" test, which consist of blocking the air inlet, but no...

Not sure if I shouldn't start a new thread...? But for now I'll keep going here. Today it is raining in Nova Scotia. Good day to spend some time in the shop. Re: How low is low MPG?

Thank you ct1500 for your comments. Interestingly enough, I happen to check if I had vacuum in #2 pink hose, the one feeding the actuator just before reading your comments. There is no vacuum there. I used my mityvac gauge to do it. I try to “pump” some vacuum in it but it is open to atmosphere. So ...
