Re: How low is low MPG?

Not sure if I shouldn't start a new thread...? But for now I'll keep going here. Today it is raining in Nova Scotia. Good day to spend some time in the shop. I went ahead and remove the snorkel all together to check the actuator. All is working as it should and the duct valve was wide opened. I foll...

Re: How low is low MPG?

Thank you ct1500 for your comments. Interestingly enough, I happen to check if I had vacuum in #2 pink hose, the one feeding the actuator just before reading your comments. There is no vacuum there. I used my mityvac gauge to do it. I try to “pump” some vacuum in it but it is open to atmosphere. So ...

Re: How low is low MPG?

I had seen the “cardboard test” suggested before but kind of disregard it until ct1500 brought it up on his Aug 07 post. I have followed his advices before with good result so why not... Cut my piece of cardboard and after a short ride to warm up the engine, I went ahead and start closing the air in...

Re: GL1500 Rear Replacement Spring/Shock

I looked into replacing my rear shock on my 1990 sidecar unit late April. I contacted the distributor for Hagon in NA. They are located in Nova Scotia but also have a warehouse in Maine. They were very helpful in providing me with lots of info. They can be contacted at the following address: British...

Re: Stiff fork after hitting a road bump..

To my recollection from when I rebuilt mine, there should be no "click" when you move the arm where the brake caliper is attached. It should be a very smooth sliding feeling. If you don't know when the oil was changed you may want to consider a complete rebuilt. My 1990 had about 170K kms. One side ...

Re: Stiff fork after hitting a road bump..

I would make sure that your anti dive system is not locked engaged. That would keep your forks from working the way they should.

Re: Clutch

Same DOT 4 fluid as the brakes... So yes, it does require identical service.
Now as the fluid is dirty at the master cylinder, imagine what it looks like in the slave cylinder. I would consider taking this cylinder apart and give it a thorough cleaning, if not rebuilt, when you replace the fluid...

Re: 99 GL1500SE Electical Issue

First of all, I am not an electrical gurus... I am not sure about that fuse #8 is related to the turn signal one. From your description I would say that the LED relay is incompatible with the self cancelling unit. Which LED relay is it and where did you get it? Did you get 2 ie one for the hazard li...

With shipping and exchange rate, I would still end up with the same $$$. Looks like I am going to spend that much one way or the other...

Re: Starter motor keeps running!

Okay... So I check with my local Honda dealer about the $ for such a relay...! Now I am wondering if they are gold plated? $103.60 CAD + taxes, in my case 15% Sooo, would anyone know of an alternative relay which would fit? Can't see automotive relay being that expensive. Just want to make s...

Starter motor keeps running!

I read earlier a post about this before but cannot find it so let me ask again... Last evening when starting my 1990, I could hear that the starter motor kept on spinning even so the engine was running. I decided to go right back home. I don't think it would have hurt anything for a short ride... I ...

Re: Red or blue threadlocker

Good day from Nova Scotia,
When I did mine I just torqued the bolts. I didn’t use any thread locker. You could use the blue one if you’d like. The red one is almost as good as welding  Not a good idea in my opinion.

Re: Turn signals are dead

While the trunk was out, I decided to bypass the bank angle sensor. I have a sidecar so it is not a bad idea. It was on my list on "things" to do.
Everything is back in order. The bike cranks, the signal turn lights blink, the hazard lights flash... Life is good. Going for a ride tomorrow :D

Re: Turn signals are dead

Thank you for the reply. I determine that the self cancelling unit had finally given up on me so I decided to bypass it... I removed the Blue#lack wire from the turn signal connector. I made a new wire to plug in its place and send it to ground. My turn signals are back. I was never happy with the s...

I was in Walmart yesterday and out of curiosity I went and check the Mobil 1 High Mileage oil.
I know it is 5W30 and not the 10W40, but the lower part of the donut is not blank...!
Would anyone knows what the SN PLUS means?

Turn signals are dead

I have had some issues with my turn signals but after cleaning up the switches, they seemed to work up to 2 days ago. They just died on me. Nothing is happening. The relay under the trunk did check good. I tested it by trading with the hazard relay. So I strongly suspect that the turn signal cancel ...

Re: turn signal blub

Interesting to know. Just to make sure that I understand you correctly; The 2 new flashers resolved the hyper flashing issues but you lost the self cancelling function? Right! Personally I do not care for it. The timer is not long enough so I end up having to turn my signal light at least twice when...

Re: Hazard light Issues

Your switch assembly needs a thorough cleaning. This is the link to the post I wrote after cleaning my turn signal switches: https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=56249&p=333965#p333965 I also clean the hazard lights and cruise control switches. They are very similar. I have lots of pi...

Re: 97 1500 99 valk compatible ??

The Valkyrie has an inverted front fork with 45 mm tubes versus a traditional fork with 41 mm tubes. Don't think your Easy Steer is going to fit... Bearings for the triple tree seems to be the same according to the fiches. Don't know about rake angle or trail. I know the clearing of the mufflers for...

Re: Cold coolant leak saga...

Looks like I better get use to this mileage! Was hoping for a little better but it is what it is... CT1500: I know I probably should but that would be another $60.00/$65.00 here in Canada. So I'll try the seal first and if needs be It will another redo with the cover. Looks like you can get to it fr...

Re: Cold coolant leak saga...

Some comfort knowing I am not alone with this issue... ;) Joke aside, I have been riding it while keeping a close eye to what's happening and fluid level. It only leaks when I crank the engine, not much and not for very long. It is coming from the front of the thermostat cover. I had to remove the l...
