Cold coolant leak saga...

I have had a cold coolant leak for quite a while now. Recently I decided to tackle it. I purchased all the O rings for the water pipes and the seals for the intake manifolds with the best intention to replace them. I removed both radiators and fans to see better down under... When I realized how muc...

Re: Gl1500 Carb Rebuild

When I decided to rebuilt my carbs, I got a kit from Randakk's: https://www.randakks.com/randakks-own-gl1500-master-carb-overhaul-kit.html?fits-motorcycle=Honda%2FGL1500%2Fall-models%2F1990 The air mixture screws were ceased on my 1990 carburetors so I replaced them with a set from a 1996. I used th...

Re: Turn Signals Switches Clean-Up

Thanks, I've also done the flasher and cruise control switches. Lots of pics also. I didn't post any as there is already a few posts about them. Those two are very similar and much more of a pain to put back together. But with a little patience and a few choice traditional Canadian words  , i...

Turn Signals Switches Clean-Up

I was having a lot of issues with my turn signals behavior. Not picking up correctly and not staying on for long among others. For a while I thought that the self cancelling unit was bad but based on advice from this forum, I decided to first clean the switches. It did not solved my issue as it turn...

Re: turn signal blub

Bummer... That is disappointing!
Well above my electrical pay grade to even try to make sense of it. I am okay with plug and play but that is about it :D

May be someone could shed some lights on this? Wonder how it works on the 1800? It supposed to be made for them...

Re: turn signal blub

DarthJ, This is the reply I received from Gary at Cycle Max: Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, I don’t know the answer to your question. We don’t have a GL1500 here to test one on. So, if you get one and find that it works for the 4 ways, please let me know and I will update my description for other...

Re: turn signal blub

Very good point DarthJ, Just wondering if any one has already done it? I contacted Gary at Cycle Max Who could not answer if the relay SCMGL88T1 would work for the hazards lights. I also contacted Admore Lighting but apparently they do not realized that this relay works for the turn signals. They sa...

Tulsa no more... Well only half

A few days ago I was reading a post from "thebruce", https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=56134&sid=c760fa527065a76e101cbb82f411e613#p332928, which reminded me of my last run under a misty rain at dusk. That evening I decided that my Tulsa windshield had to go. I have the Madstad on my...

Re: Gl1500 Carb Rebuild

Zackzuro, I am afraid that Dingdong has a more than valid point. I have a 1990 with 177000 kms which sat for about 10 years that I know of and I have been going through this process for the past 3 years, one step at a time... I rebuilt the front fork first (it was leaking) including the bushings, al...

Re: Gl1500 Carb Rebuild

I know we are talking carburetors but... I would be willing to guess that the timing belts are original. Unless you know for sure that the PO did replaced them, you should put them on your list before cranking this engine again. Just saying :D 1900 miles, must be in mint condition. Should post some ...

Re: turn signal blub

Back to the LED turn signal lights... If I understand what's being said, a LED relay would let use LED bulbs without the hyper flashing and no need of resistors, right? But you would loose the self canceling feature... I am not a big fan of the self canceling thing. I am more like old school. I can ...

Re: Timing Belt Cover Repair

Thank you, I make note of it. Acetone would be good for thinning, would it? My next winter project will be to remove and repair all the body parts in needs of attention. I will remove a bunch of chrome bars which means that I will have to close a fair number of holes... I was reading with a lot of a...

Wow I am impressed. Didn't think I could get the answer.
I do have a service manual for my 1500. Could you tell me where you found the info in it?
Just curious.
But thanks a lot. I put this on my list of upgrade... :D
Let you know how much of an improvement it brings...

Cheers.

Front brake master cylinder

I came across this post on the 1200 forum I believe. I have unlinked the front and rear brake on my 1990 GL1500 SE because of the sidecar and put both brake front calipers on the front master using a double banjo with custom made stainless hose. While it is working fine, I wouldn't mind reducing the ...

Re: Fader Removal

Thank you. I went on the Sierra site and look at their instructions for the fader unit they offer. Mine must an old version but indeed I need to reconnect the 2 clear connectors and leave the black one unplug. I will have to tape it shut before closing it all... I keep this option in mind for when I...

Re: Turn signals misbehaving!

Thank you for the kind words. Today I put the fans back on. The left one was really a PITA if you ask me. The right one went in fairly easy. I cranked the engine and let it warm up until the fans kick in to make sure all was good. Idle stayed steady the all time and the engine picked up nice every t...

Below is a pic of my center console with, in between the 2 gauges, what I believe to be a fader... I am going to keep my fingers cross for a while yet but my signal lights are working! :D I suppose when everything fails... Follow the instruction... Re: Turn signals misbehaving!

I do have incandescent bulbs. They are all working when I put the 4 ways flasher on. I will go and check the connector in the stem. Re: Turn signals misbehaving!

Did some probing this pm. Getting somewhat frustrated as it does not make much sense to me... First check was ground, inside the switch and that is definitely good. I also check for voltage on the 3 prongs (Circled in Red on the picture below) that the lever makes contact with when you move right, l...

Thanks for the warning Fiberthree, I will proceed with caution. I will double check my pictures for abnormal wears on the contacts... Re: Turn signals misbehaving!

Thank you for pointing this post to me, Fiberthree... I DID checked the "How To Articles" but I will have to admit that I missed it. Also the switch presented in this article is the 4 way flashers switch. It would be applicable as well to the cruise control ON/OFF switch. However the one for the sig...
