Re: Hello from a newbie. A few questions?

+1 on the Shifter brace mentioned above for the crunchies. Might consider a fork brace for the wobblies. Blackwing is highly recommended in the states, not sure of availability across the pond.. http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=28654 Your oil choice should be OK, the Shell Rotella ...

Re: 84 Aspencade Head Gasket Overhaul

As to O-rings, replacing those on my 1100 I was able to find ones from the local ACE Hardware that fit very well on the 1100 coolant tubes. Think 1200 tubes use same O-rings. Be sure to bring a tube with you when you go....

Re: 1100 throttle lock and dipstick

On a cross-country trip years ago my right arm was getting sore from holding the throttle. I stopped in a truck-stop and got a package of 6 or 8 inch long little bungy-cords. Took a bungy cord, put one hook on a throttle cable, looped it over the hand grip and put the other hook on a throttle cable....

topic about transistor replacement........ http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14339&start=25 Do the transistor replacement, then add a relay where the fuel pump power from the ECM only energizes the relay to switch power from the battery directly to the pump. If you haven't bought your Gates belts yet I've found they're a lot less expansive from Amazon (around $18 ea vs $40 from dealer).

You could pull the power to the fuel pump, but that has to be done if you only have a quarter tank of gas or less, otherwise it'll gravity-feed.

Re: GL1500 trailer wiring

On my 1500 I have two 4-Flat connectors on the Cyclemax isolator so I don't need to use a 5-to-4 converter. I tried a converter, maybe it was not very good quality, and got rid of it. The problem was in combining the Brake and Turn power, the result was low voltage to the brake/turn filament on the ...

Re: trailer hitch

I paid $230 for GL1500 hitch new, so I'd say $100 a good price. Cyclemax has the isolators, I've installed this one on the 1500. http://www.cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1500_iso_trailer_wiring_harness/129/59647 It is Plug-and-Play on the 1500, just disconnect the stop/turn light connectors in the unde...

Never tried adjusting the shield, I have a very tall one. Just how much up/down adjustment is there on a '93 1500 anyway?

Re: Synthetic oil or non-synthetic

I've been using Valvoline "Max Life" 10W40 synthetic blend in everything, even the lawnmower, for years. I never checked to see if it had any friction modifiers or not, but in the 50000 miles I've owned it (now 101K on the clock) the GL1100 has never complained. But now I'm stocking Rotella T6 on th...

Re: trailer size

I got ten days off! We're going, First road trip on my new-2-me '93 Aspencade! Trailer is 350 LBS empty, and probably 500+ loaded. It has a long tongue, so bike doesn't really notice. Same 8" wheels, pack the wheel bearings really well and it does fine even at 80MPH. Tires are important, Esp if pull...

Re: 1975 GL1000 Wont Start After New Clutch Cable Help?

Try jumping the two main terminals at the solenoid (Starter relay) with a screwdriver or something, possible bad relay contacts.

Re: 1975 GL1000 Wont Start After New Clutch Cable Help?

Expelling coolant from reservoir tank while cranking sounds like head gasket.

To check hydrolock, remove the sparkplugs and hit the starter - the hydrolocked cylinder will expell its contents thru the sparkplug hole.

Re: Slave Clutch

If you are leaking clutch fluid into the engine oil and not onto the ground I'd do an oil change right away! Brake fluid eats engine bearings!

Re: Low RPM sputter

Maybe time to re-sync the carburetors - if they are out of sync, won't be noticed much at half throttle but the closer the throttles are to idle the more the out-of balance is noticed.

A compression check wouldn't hurt, either.

Re: I'm back and already some questions

What I've heard is Trunk Side and Saddlebag and front marker lights were standard on the SE, just reflectors standard on the Aspy. Cornering lights not standard on Aspy either. PO on my '93 Aspy added aftermarket light kits to replace the reflectors, and the Show-Chrome kit for cornering lights. I u...

Re: Runs only if I bypass starter relays with jumper cables

You might want to look at that slave cylinder again, if there's no external fluid leaks and you are losing clutch fluid, it's going past the slave cylinder seals and into your motor oil, which can be disastrous to engine bearings.....

Re: replacing timing belts

An interesting thing is that you can put one of the cams 180 degrees out and the motor will run. The normal timing is that when cylinders 1 and 2 are TDC, one is on compression stroke, the other between exhaust/intake. The coil sparks to both simultaneously, a wasted spark on the exhaust/intake cyli...
