Re: High idle question

Oh, I intend to do an idle drop tune, but my biggest issue right now is that when I apply the "choke" it does not run up on high idle like it used to. I reset the pilot screws to 2 turns out as the shop manual I have says and it gave the response. It sounds awful I can't figure out if it's horribly ...

Re: High idle question

Gotcha. May move the carbs enough to get in the and reset the screws. And man you're right, those screws a PIA to get to from the front.

High idle question

Hey all a quick question. Do the pilot screws effect the high idle circuit? I finally got back to working on the wing the other day and got it running again. I noticed that after adjusting the idle screws the high idle isn't working like it should, it struggles to stay running something it has not d...

Re: Reverse removal

If a basic naked bike is what you want, you may want to consider selling the bike you already have. A better start for you would be a 1500 interstate model, those bikes came from the factory without reverse. That would save you a bunch of complicated work.

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

The fuel has plenty of sea foam in it. Gonna add a little to the oil and hopefully get out for a ride.

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

Well with pump number four in and a brass 90 degree fitting installed this time my wing is up and running again. Now I'm dealing with a new problem that has not happened before. I can hear a lean popping in the exhaust. It's running on all cylinders. It idles and revs well (still with a small surge)...

Re: WHO HAS EVER DUMPED THEIR WING?

I have dropped my wing twice, both in the same weekend. Was still getting used to riding a big cruiser coming from a CB750. Went to Barber Vintage Fest last year with it and while finding a camp site in the tent lot (which is one big uneven slope) my wife and I went down. Couldn't see that the groun...

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

I may not pull wrenches for a living anymore but, back then and even now I have noticed a real slip in replacement part quality. Even OEM parts are not near the quality of years ago. A fine example is the dyna ignition for a CB750 the old ones seemed to never fail guys have run them for 10 plus year...

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

Pump number 4 is in and working as it should. I replaced the in tank hose and put a brass 90 degree fitting in this time. It ran but, sounded awful. Much like my CB750 when it's down a cylinder. So I took the carbs off and checked them inside and out, nice and clean as I figured they would be. Decid...

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

Hey guys sorry for the slow response. 2 of the 3 pumps have failed in the same way. The first pump failed the way most do slowly on the way home from work one day. I fueled up on the way home that day and as I was riding the engine just steadily lost power and speed until it died. The 2nd and 3rd pu...

Carter fuel pump problems

To everyone who has chosen to use the carter fuel pump as a replacement to the non-existant factory ones, have you had problems with realiabilty? Last December I finally figured out that the factory pump had given up, so after reading up on replacement parts I chose to go with the carter fuel pump. ...

Can overly rich idle cause a surge

As my subject line states is it possible for an overly rich idle to cause an engine surge? I pulled the pilot screws and cleaned the passages, and replaced the orings when I cleaned the carbs when I first got the bike. I counted the turns in to seated for both screws and set them back when I put the...

Pilot screw setting process

I am just wondering if anyone has actually gone through the process as the book describes. I did replace the orings in the pilot screws as it was very needed, back last year. I counted the turns in to seated on each one then when I put them back, I ran them back to seated and turned them back out th...

Re: lights stay on

Without my wing being here at work with me, I have to count on my memory but I believe there is a position in ignition switch which will illuminate marker lights. This position also allows for the key to be removed. I believe that it is one click past the regular off position.

Re: Looking for ideas

Actually it's kinda funny you mention 2 stoke oil as an additive. I am considering the exact same thing. A day or 2 before we left on our little vacation I ran my wing in the garage after some fuel supply issues, it started right up and ran as it normally does. Went to ride yesterday morning and it ...

Looking for ideas

Good afternoon all, Since I got my wing back up and running after a 6 year slumber (thanks to the prior owner) the bike has had a slight surge at idle, nothing bad just not the perfect running machine I'd like to have. Anyway I built an EVAP smoke tester for my car since it has an intermittent probl...

Re: choke stuck closed

I would say if there was any fuel left in the carbs when you stopped riding it, there is probably a build up varnish and other deposits in them. The carbs may require some cleaning to get them back to proper form. You may be able to run some Sea Foam in the fuel to help clean them, but I wouldn't ru...

Re: Body part fitment

I had a chance to look the stereo clip is there. A question I have is does anyone have a picture of where the stereo wiring should be routed, or can at least tell me where it should go? I have tried a few routings but I just can't get it to lay just right.

Thanks,

Travis

Re: On to fuel pump number 3

Finally got around to spending some time with the wing this weekend. After installing the new fuel pump and new hose about a week ago, it fired right back up and ran, but then quit while idling and would not restart. After testing the new pump multiple different ways ending with a simple bench test ...

Re: SHORT LEGS !! - BIG PROBLEM ???

Something other Goldwing riders have always told me is that you have to "learn to Goldwing". I have had to relearn how to ride when I got the wing, the ride and handling is nothing like my CB750 or the the little CL350 I had years ago. Tell him it takes time to get used to these big beasts. Like I s...

Thanks for the info everyone. I am beginning to suspect I need to move the radio harness a bit, and I'm not sure that front radio clip is there, have to look in a little while (if the kids will give me a chance) ;)

Body part fitment

Good afternoon all, Got a quick question for everyone. I am getting ready to reassemble my '92 interstate, and I continue to have the same issue I've had since I got it. The top piece (shelter) that has the stereo does not seem to fit as it should. There is always a gap between it and the left side ...

Re: SHORT LEGS !! - BIG PROBLEM ???

I'm pretty short myself. My inseam is about 30 inches and my '92 interstate has a stock seat and I rode it for a while that way. It made me a little uneasy but, I was ok with it. A few months ago 1 took the seat off and peeled the seat cover off (very easy to do) and took a grinder and flap wheel to...

Re: rear master cylinder repair

Something else to consider is to try reverse bleeding the brakes. This is one of my favorite "newer" ways of doing brakes and hydro clutches I learned from working on Volvo road tractors. I accomplish it by using a 50 or 60cc syringe or a smaller one with a nipple for a hose (possibly a 10cc may com...

Re: On to fuel pump number 3

Well I installed the new fuel pump yesterday and encountered similar symptoms like I had the other day. It restarted after the pump installation ran roughly, and eventually quit. It was tough to get it restarted and would barely idle. If I so much as touched the throttle it died. Wondering if the fi...
