If no "bites", suggest getting to know nearby GWRRA chapter members, or over in Winchester Chapter F? Join on some rides as a guest. Develop some trust both ways. I used to live in NoVa ( Signal Hill Road in Manassas actually, but that was long ago ) but am now a few hours away and rarely ever find...

Looking for lighting suggestions, I dont mind a lot but lets not go to crazy

Hi again gang! I need lighting suggestions for Blue here. She is stock and not very visible. 93 GL1500 Aspencade. Yes to led, on any and all lights. Not sure about headlight upgrades but open to ideas. I am interested mainly in red and blue lights really, aside from the missing front driving/corneri...

Seeking somebody in my area with indepth owership knowldge and people to ride with, Northern Va

He everyone, I want to talk with another healthy GL1500 owner to compare my bikes riding condition and behaviors with in person with our bikes. Maybe even swap rides for a short drive to see how my rough work in progress bike compares to a health one. This will help me know what I need to work on an...

Hazard button will not stay down

So a few weeka back I hit the hazard lights. They came on but the button got stuck and would not release. I got angry amd pushed maybe to hard, but it came free and the lights went out. Now the button will not lock down it just springs back up and the lights go right off. Any fix for this or do I ne...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Just a follow up regarding jumping your bike battery from a running car or truck. Came across this on another forum. http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/?#/topics/66329219 Thanks for the link. That is very interesting. I have jumped the bike several times from my running truck battery, which btw is...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Yea good advice gang. I am going to leave it hot wired for now. Eventually I will order the assembly. Maybe next spring or something, just so it's "fixed" even if I leave it hot wired.

Thanks,

Re: At wits end . . . .

Okay, back on June 21st the wife and I took the Wing to Denver Co from our home in OkCity Ok. The route was straight forward , I-35 to I-70 to Denver. Should be no issues, right ? We where pulling our trailer, and fought a fair head wind, but a over all nice day for a ride, or so we thought. Just s...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Thanks for the links and the help everyone! Can't thank this site operator and members enough! We couldn't keep riding without you all contributing. For now, I have hot wired the 2 wires by bolting them together to 1 post in the switch. Works fine, key now does everything. Rode to work with a nice s...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Yes I am THRILLED! However the switch went from fine to shot real fast somehow. Saturday I did ride about 1 mile down a gravel road to my RC airfield club to say hi to the guys flying cause I havent flown much at all this year due to working on this bike all my spare time lol. Maybe the vibration pi...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

SOLVED! On a whim i decided to check that 2 wire kill switch. Sure enough loose wire!!!! And worn out switch. One of the embeded threaded bolts is in to far and barely makes contact with the bar that completes the circiut! Stretched out the springs some and sanded the bar and the tops of the bolts b...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Update:

This is looking really bad now.....

Jumped fuel pump to battery. It works fine.....

Also wont start when i jump pump to power, and crank bike, just cranks and cranks.....

So this means ecu is not sending signal to pump...
Why? What is the next item to check?

Thanks,

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Update: No burnt wires or smell that I can see or smell. Pulled the fuel line off the fuel pump, crank the bike with a battery, nothing comes out of the fuel pump hard line. Which of the the 3 wires on the pump do i need to jump to the battery to check the pump for failure? See pic and tell me what ...

Re: At wits end . . . .

I did check the fuel pump connections again after I got it home, wires all appear good Hate to rail on this point, but the smoke came from somewhere, most likely the wires. Some digging and disassembly will likely be required. If not the wires, then an electrical component. The fuel filter for exam...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

All good advice. Thank you everyone! I plan to spend an hour or 2 after work today checking things like fuel flow when cranking. To clarify: There is zero aftermarket stuff on this bike. Except broken wind wings which I removed. Battery is new roughly 2 months ago. AGM from Batteries plus. I looked ...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Thank you everyone for the advice. You all are awesome folks! I will take the not jumping the bike from my truck info under advisement. Never seen any ill effects from doing this on this bike, or any other bikes, but you do make sense. I have an older analog charger, it does 6amp and 2amp, 12v and 6...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Let me try to answer some of your questions first. 1. 12.35 volts. That's normal and full correct? Actually, not really. A fully charged motorcycle battery should be 12.6 to 12.7 volts when tested with a properly configured voltmeter. It doesn't look as though you had your voltmeter properly config...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

The black meter lead always stays on the common (COM), your red is in the current reading plug which is not for voltage measurements. The fine print on the meter current reading port states max. 10A unfused which was presumably breeched and likely cooked the meter. Some meters of that ilk will be f...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Update: So the battery is showing 12.35 volts i think. This is good right? 2 months old battery, agm from batteries plus. I suck at electrical stuff. I then switched the plugs on my voltmeter for some dumb reason and touched the battery again and iymt made a tiny spark. Now my volt meter wont read t...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

I'd start with the battery, then move on to the alternator. What I can't explain is the 'smoke'. Was this smoke, smoke....as in burned something smoke ? Or, possible steam ? Smell should determine that. A dead battery will cause the engine to just shut down, especially if the alternator is also dea...

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

First thing to check will be battery. Which is acting like it somehow went from 80%+ to dead in 15 mins of riding. Need to find out what can cause the bike to shut off at speed, we were on a 55mph road doing like 60mph. In traffic, it was not good! Everything was fine riding along then it sputtered,...

First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

IM SO ANGRY! I could spit nails! 93 Aspencade, see my other threads....... First time taking the wife out to ride. 5 miles from home on a minor highway with traffic. Dies while at speed, smoke from under my crotch. Got it off the road. Wont even crank. After sitting for several mins it barely cranks...

Re: Is this the right oil?

After looking this CI-4 plus information up online. It seems to be about lowering emissions in diesels with EGR systems and such. Nothing about friction modifiers, its about lowering soot and sulfur and stuff, so it should be ok? Its a lot of scientific goblygook but that's my take on it. Not really...
