I'm 59. I have been riding for about 40 years. At the beginning, I basically what I could afford at the time. I got a Silverwing in I think 2001 and first Goldwing about 2003 and still riding them. I like the comfortable ride and the dependability but, (she says more importantly, lol) my wife does too. I'm planning about another 25 years on two-wheels and will then go to three, rofl.

Is it a bad thing that I may be one of the youngest on this website I'm only 16 and have a 1978 gl1000 goldwing I hope to keep it untill I die lol hope it lives long enough.
Awesome! I got my first Wing at 17, a '83 1100 Interstate... now on my 5th Wing 32 years later and so glad my dad had his Goldwing rather than the Harleys and his old Triumph for me to steal... uhh, borrow when I got my license. While Harley's and Triumph's are nice bikes( I have a '83 Shovelhead), there not a Goldwing! Enjoy that Wing young man, knowing you didn't follow the norm and went straight to heaven on two wheels!

Well I'm 30 and in the one percent as the poll sits now lol

The '84 CB550 is going up for sale in the spring and the '83 aspencade (I like old things) I picked up last fall is replacing it. Had a 1979 yamaha enduro 100 a while back as well.

I guess I'm really not in the norm on this one but can't wait to get that thing out as I know for sure it'll get the same looks and attention my sled gets in the winter and I love that ****. Had two guys come up today and ask me about the sled ... one even wanted to buy it. It's a 1972 Motoski capri 340 single that's in real good shape. I keep it in the back of the truck for hunting..... ya, old things are great.

Well, I suppose hunting in winter is alright - it puts those real cold critters out of their misery of spending another winter in the cold, while you await the warmth and sunshine of Spring and Summer to go riding. That is from an older fart, that still manages to get his leg over occasionally.

I am now 56, which seems to be the biggest group of goldwing drivers.
Anyhow, I bought my first GL1000 in 1982 and further changed that to GL1100 until1986. Then I had a long brake starting from 1990, one marriage, wife and 4 kids. Then when the wife and oldest kids started to interested in biking, I got a GL1800 in 2007. Daddy´s bike! Today 4 out of six family members got bikes and everyone got the bike driving license. Maybe worth of registered biker club?

I'm 77 "and a half". Grandkids think it's funny when I emphasize the "half". So I'm in the 12%. But it looks like a whole bunch of Wingers will be graduating up to my bracket over the next 10 to 20 yrs. I plan to still be here to welcome your arrival. Rode smaller European bikes in my youth. Then family and career took priority. Now widowed, rebuilt a 1980 GL1100, with my children's blessing, and loving the adventure. Maybe look for a nice widow to join me 2up ??

I started riding a homemade scooter my younger brother and I built from an old Mcculloch chain saw engine and a scooter frame when I was 14. Moved on from there and eventually bought a Honda 350 scrambler in 1970. I still have that. Always wanted a Harley or Indian since my dad refused to let me buy an old Indian with the tank shift and foot clutch for $50.00 when I was 15 years old. So eventually when I was no longer restricted by my dad I bought bigger bikes, including many Harleys. In 2005 I decided I wanted one new motorcycle before I was too old to ride any more. So I went to my trusted Harley dealer and priced the bike of my dreams. It was only $39,000.00! No way could I justify investing that much in something I could ride once or twice a week for 3 months, weather permitting I lived in northern Wisconsin). There were a group of us that met one evening a week for a ride, burger and BS session. All older riders. No drinking. No hot rodding. No one cared if you had a new bike, a clean bike, or what kind of bike. There were all kinds, sizes, and even a homemade trike. Those of us with Harleys were usually discussing what we had been fixing, replacing with different chrome or just picking each other's brains about issues with the bikes. The Honda folks would stand around patiently until eventual frustration would lead to the comment about whether or not we were going to ride or talk.
So just for the heck of it I went to a Honda dealer. I new the owner for many years and asked about test driving a Goldwing. He had a used 95, 1500 that I was just going to take around the block. An hour or more later I returned and bought it right then. Later that fall the urge to have a new bike hit me and I traded it in for a new 2008 1800. I never felt comfortable with it the entire next summer and tried to buy the 95 back 3 times. The guy that had bought it wouldn't sell it. I kept searching for a different bike and 2 years later came across a Harley that was almost exactly like my dream bike I had wanted. 2 years old with not a lot of miles on it and $19,000 less than new. Of course I bought it and thought I was happier than a pig in poop!
I retired. Moved away. Had no one to ride with. The closest Harley club was the typical bar hopping red neck bunch. Ugh! I barely rode the next 3 years and traded the Harley for a pickup truck. I still had my 1970 scrambler with a milk crate bungied on the back for my Walmart runs.
One boring cold and rainy October afternoon I was eyeballing Craigslist and came across a 95 Goldwing for sale. I looked at it and bought it reasonable intending to clean it up and fix it up over winter and sell it in spring for a small profit. I started riding it come warm weather and really like it so I'm back riding again. I had intended to stop riding at age 67. Realizing that one's balance and reflexes are slowing to the point of making a motorcycle not the safest mode of transportation. But, I like my Goldwing so well and feel I'm able to handle it just fine and dandy.
Yes. I guess I can be classified as an old goomer but I still wave at any size and kind of bike, including the ones with peddles!

Thanks to you folks responsible for the monthly news letter. I look forward to reading it and have learned more than I would have guessed. Keep up the excellent and helpful work.

I bought my 1977 Gl1000 at the age of 16 a little while ago now Im 17, fixed most major issues and just working on the final stuff til I can start using it on the road.
I started with a homemade bicycle / engine kit and I wanted something big so I bought the Goldwing for $430 and have just under $1000 into it now

49 now, but have been riding Golds since 27...and ask my wife, I do not act my age at all, lol. I do agree with the "groups" comment, I rode with GWTA for a long time and I was definitely one of the youngest by far and got to a point of riding to the same places doing the same things, so stopped the group thing. I think now I prefer to be the "lone wolf" rider and meet up with others on the road and ride with them as I go.

Well I am 69 going on 16 and I can tell you that Honda builds the best bikes out there. I had a 93 apencade for 20 years lost her in 2014, went without a bike for 4 years thought my riding days were over and then the wife said I don't care what we ride we are riding last summer, picked up a Vulcan 900 and loved it but after a wing nothing else is good enough was pushed (lol) into test riding a 1800 and I was hooked again, I thought the weight and size was beyond me at my age but it is easier for me to handle than the 900. Also check out the other forums I always grin they all all about how great their bikes are and then complain about everything about them. The Goldwing sites just enjoy their ride, here we talk about fixing a 30 or 40 year old bike there they are talking about rebuilding a year old bike. We talk about (safety chrome) they talk about replacing sprockets and adding this and that so you can ride at highway speeds. Wings were built right the first time that is why old guys like me buy them. There is a thread here that asks why there are so many old Goldwing s for sale it is because they are made so well that they outlive their owners. So go out and put those farkles and safety chrome add on and have fun and ride safe. That is all this old f
coot has to say and I am out of here. 😁

I am 45 but the first bike I rode on was a '77 GW when I was 3 with my dad, and I have owned all but the 1500. There have certainly been other bikes, but GW's hold an important place for me. Comfort is king in my book.

Just haveta weigh in. I started out on a cousins Honda 50 that was so beat that all that was left was the engine, 2 tires, and the chain in between......but it ran like a top...moved up to a 1970/71 Honda 100 with knobby tires.....that thing was still running great and everything had fallen off it......moved up to a Cm400T and rode it for 2 summers in Maine, lost a good friend in a wreck on a relatively new to him bike and never owned a bike again until Feb. this year. Went straight to the front of the pack with a Goldwing and after some terrifying practice rides, I am happy! Looking forward to getting up into the mountains and enjoying the long riding season here in the south.
Oh, and I am in that same bracket that will change in less then 6 months.....lol.
