Warm weather

Post by WingAdmin »

Lots of snow melting still, roads covered in wet, salty runoff and littered with potholes...but with 50 degree weather today, I saw quite a few bikes. Including, the first new Valkyrie I have seen on the road. The headlight on that thing REALLY picks it out of traffic!

Something to definitely look for. Supposed to be up to 65 this weekend, but wife has plans to drag us all out to the coast to do some "tide-pooling" so I will be caging it. UGH!

It can't last obviously, and it isn't. Winter weather advisory is now on the radio, and all the chemical de-icer trucks are out coating the roads right now in preparation for it. This winter just won't let go!

Then there is us in the upper corner of the PNW (Western Washington specifically) that can't get any kind of real winter. We had a little bit of a snow taunting over the last month but I rode in it so it wasn't anything to write home about. Send some of that stuff over here!!!! I am so jealous. Not that I want to be in the cage but I LOVE the snow.

We are not showing a forecast of any reasonable weather till at least the first day of spring here. Going down to - 13 F tomorrow night.

Why don't you just move here for the winter, and I will come live in your house (you can live in mine) I have over four feet of snow in my back yard.

Mainviking, I feel your pain. New record for the most days below 0 Fahrenheit in north central Wi. But I know we have not had 4 ft. of snow on the ground at any one given time. Ouch... I was thinking of getting a trailer to pull behind my bike, but now thinking of getting a trailer for my truck, so I can take my bike south and I can get a few miles on it...

BEEP! Bite your tongue, some blue sky out, when I left work at 5:30, 60 degrees...and I was in the car....ugh! We are now at the point of having rain/wind/sun.....the green is now turning really green, and almost time for the bike to roll! It is about time. So if anyone wants to ship snow out, send it BEEP's way up north, leave SW WA alone please, lol.

(Heard Chicago is supposed to get between 2-10 inches in the next 24 hours.....amazing!)

I hate to be a party-pooper (not really!) but I put on 100+ miles this afternoon just because it was so nice! I think it was about 63 or so and mostly sunny but the wind was kinda gusty. Took a ride up into the mountains just to blow the cobwebs out and found that my cut-off road back home was still snow-covered. Not riding in that! So I just turned around and headed back down the hill. I love pickin' bugs outa my teeth! :D

-12wind chill, roads icy where they melted yesterday. What a mess. At least this will slow down the melt and lower the chance of flood. That's ok, I haven't picked up the water pump I need yet.

Sure understand that, Beav. Tomorrow I start using my bike to commute to work. It's only about 18 miles each way. When I head home on the interstate it's hard to make that last exit instead of keeping on riding! Not that I like the interstate, but the wind in my face just makes it feel so nice!

Tuesday afternoon it was over 60 degrees here, so I took the little Honda 90 out
for a 25 mile ride.
This morning, a little more than 24 hours later, the temperature was 14 degrees
and wind was HOWLING!! Holy crap! What a change! :o
It's now 7 pm and wind is still howling out there.
This is ridiculous!

last Sunday was great, i took my bike on the dragon's tail........72 degrees, clear skies and hardly any traffic. was a great ride........for those of you that don't know about "the dragon's tail" you can go here to see what its all about.............www.tailofthedragon.com....if you do a bing search on it, click on "images" to pull up a road map and you'll see what its all about. its 318 curves on 11 miles of road. this road stretches from tn129 in Tennessee to the north Carolina border. its got "S" turns, hair pin turns, max speed limit is only 30mph the entire length. some turns you cant go faster than 3mph, but there are some idiots on crotch rockets that do them at a much faster speed. some make it, some don't. it has killed many a rider over the past several years. in my avatar photo i have now posted, you can see me on one of the many turns on this road. my photo was taken by one of the photographers that sit on the side of the road and take pics of all the traffic that goes by.

Yep. Here, Tuesday was 55 degrees, sunny and gorgeous. Wednesday was a howling blizzard, 12 degrees. Thursday was clear and 10 degrees. Today the forecast is sunny and 60 degrees. Crazy weather!

I feel for you guys up north, I hate to see my machine just sitting in the garage too. Of course we have more riding days down here in NW Florida and lately it's been pretty nice. You will see bikes out on the road every weekend unless it's just storming too much. Pack your bags and trailer down! Lot's of rides starting up with the spring season just around the corner. Stay warm, dry and right side up!

Yep - great road to ride. 318 curves in 11 miles. Tennessee has another great ride too (well lots more than that but I am only going to mention one) The devils triangle. It is like the tail of the dragon, only four times as long. 44 miles of twisties. Some as tight as on the tail, some not, but a nice way to spend an hour.

hey viking, i did some research on that "devils triangle" you told me about......beings as i've only done the dragon twice now, i don't think i have the expertise to take on that type of a road just yet, especially with all its switchbacks and uphill grades. maybe after i get a few more times on the dragon under my belt will i try to take on the triangle, but its a very interesting roadway. i looked at some of the pics of it, and im a little leery about it with all its problems like coal dust and water on the road, cracks and ruts in the middle of some of the turns, not to happy about those. im still checking into the other roads IE:moonshiners, and the other one. i'll keep ya posted as to which one im gonna try next.

my friend Larry, and myself rode the Dragon and Moonshine 28, and also the Parkway, and the Devil's Triangle , of all the roads the Triangle was the most fun, we did this in 2012 trip, we had to ride the Dragon in the rain a little shakey , but the main thing just take your time and enjoy the beautiful mountains, i love to go back and do it again, your Va. friend ,Mike.
