80 lb dog on the passenger seat??
Hi,
I have an 80 lb dog that I want to ride in the passenger seat of my Goldwing. I have one of those vest things that buckle her to the seat belt in a car, but I need to come with something that she can be safe and comfortable with that I can make. I want to take her up to Wisconsin this Spring and its an 8 hour ride. She would need to lay down and move around some.
Any Ideas anyone. I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks
Frank

This is how I did it back in the 70s. We did 12 hr days many times by stopping every 100 miles so Cody could stretch his legs. Sat up all the time. He sometimes would nod off laying his head on my shoulder.

You could remove the tourpac to add a seat for your hound.

Wow, back in the 70's, those were good times. You two look like you had a great time. Is that made out of plywood? I will have to take something off to fit something like that. Thank you so much newday777.

We had 35,000 miles riding together, 5 cross country trips.

Re: 80 lb dog on the passenger seat??
i too have been working at the best answer to this question ,,My dog is only 30 lbs ,, i have been wracking my brain to figure this out . Attach a dog cage to the back of the wing and so on ,, But so far the only safe answer i have is ,let the dog stay home or with friends . Look at it as you would with your wife or husband .Sometimes time apart can be a good thing ![or not]
About 20 years ago ,,i left my wife at home ,, i still cant find her .. OH BOY !

Well thank you for the Ideas but I really am looking for something that my Betty can fit in that would let her ride in on the back seat. Sure did put a smile on my face tho!

Re: 80 lb dog on the passenger seat??
The 1200s are a little easier to rig up a seat like I had as your tourpac (trunk) pops off and the mounts for the rack are accessible to mount a seat for her.brentsboats wrote:Lou Lou is my baby ,goes everywhere i go ,,I would just love to figure out away to get a nice dog box hooked up on the gl1200,,Ive tried a few times ,but so far cannot come up with something safe and secure .When i take off on the bike ,she gets really pissed at me ...Hmmmm! Re: 80 lb dog on the passenger seat??
Was curious if you ever came up with a solution because I have the same problem! I have a GL1800 and my dog Deuce is an 80 lb. American Bulldog. So far the best I can come up with is a harness that I could somehow strap to the rear sub-frame under the rear trunk. It would sure be nice if you came up with a workable solution so we could start traveling. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Re: 80 lb dog on the passenger seat??
The absolute best solution for bringing your furbabies on a ride is a sidecar! They are completely safe in the hack, and can sit or lay down as they prefer! Not to mention all the attention you'll get...

I went and purchased a Terraplane sidecar for my Betty to ride in. I have to get a rigger to mount it to the 1500.

Re: 80 lb dog on the passenger seat??
I appreciate the answers but I'm not financially ready or wanting a sidecar. My daughter is in her last year of college so it's just me and my brute and I feel bad putting him in his kennel whenever I go somewhere being I only have the bike for transportation.

Re: 80 lb dog on the passenger seat??
A quick update on us... I finally figured out a harness for my pup Deuce. So far, so good, We're pushing 1500 miles so far but no trip over 40-50 miles. Its pretty simple and I tuck it in behind The lower backrest pad when it's just me or I have a passenger. Feel free to hit me up if you're wanting info on what I did, pics... life is good being able to take my pup along... and loves it!

How about a banking sidecar, this hound looks like he's enjoying the ride.

All dogs know how to lean.
My dog loved riding and would be right there with me as I drug in the corners. We had a blast together
