Dumb has no limits when your young. My 1974 Yamaha 650, 100+ in a 25mph zone through middle of town. A 1969 Corvette with 427 putting 635 hp to rear wheels, got 2 drag race tickets with it. First was 125 in a 45, 2nd was for 115 in a 25 zone and clocked with wheels in the air, it would do 129 in a 5th mile at strip. Getting ready for Nam got prearranged race in 67 GT Mustang with highly modified 6 cylinder, 295 hp at rear and 117 in a 5th mile. My uncle was a district judge and dad a shefiff, lots of community service. Riding last leg of Kyle Petty route the wing pegged the speedo but gps was at 122-123. The 80 Honda Express could do 26 mph going down hill. Just sold an 86 Alfa Spider bumped to 180 hp, good for 155 mph in the straights at VIR. Hauled them all with a Ford Diesel truck with 513 rear gear, seen 78 mph comming off Black Mountain in neutral with 10k+ pushing. Fastest it ever seen.

not me, those days are over and done with. my life it too precious now to be doing anything like that anymore. going at 115 on my SEi is and was fast enough and after driving around for 17 years without a d/l and just getting it back 2 years ago, (after spending over $7 grand for tickets that went back 15 years), i wanna keep it lol.

i guess 21mph over the speed limit was too much for the cop that pulled me over Monday, I was in a 25mph zone almost home. I had been on the road for about eight hours coming in from niagra, ca. I got a warning to slow it down

The fastest I can recall going on a bike was about 130 - 135 on my '94 1100 Ninja. It was about then I got to thinking I'm riding a nearly 20 year old bike, with wheel bearings I don't know how old they are, etc. etc. etc.
Fastest I've been on my GL1500 is 88 according to my GPS unit. I'm sure that was when I was passing a semi-truck on the interstate.
Speed is not one of the reasons I enjoy riding anymore. I like the acceleration but high speed isn't a factor anymore.
I don't heal up as fast as I used to.

Is it we don't heal up as fast as we used to, or it took us this long to wise up?

(Or a combination of both? )

My 1977 XS1100, odometer displayed 0-160.
With Yamaha fairing I hit 145 with 1/4 throttle to go. Would have run it up more but a hill and curve was coming up fast. I'm quite confident if it didn't have the fairing, it top 175 easy BUT not with me.
At 126mph the bike had a slight wobble but on future runs I found that was due to the vortices off the fairing so I throttled through it. Back then I knew when a bike hit around 175 mph the steering input reversed so that was my reason/excuse not to try it. 8-) (buck-buck BUCKET)

I once ran from Mobile AL to Boluxi MS on I 10 at WOT. 115-117 mph for a half hour. First stop, my Yamaha 750 Special shut down. Locked up! Sat on the curb for a half hr. She started right up. Put on a Lockhart oil cooler the next day. I still have that bike! Fastest I ever went was on a buddies 750 Kaw, what was the model...Z1. Shut her down at 130, bike had smooth bores, expansion chambers, ported and polished, inverted Z bars and Dunstall set back foot controls, it would have defiantly gone faster! Ran I 80 thru Detroit at WOT with two other guys I met on the road. It was around noon and we passed everything in sight. I was on a stock '73 Honda CB450 Twin. I later punched that bike out to about 500CC .190 over, cams, jetted the carbs, electronic ignition, drilled the case and put on an oil cooler, headers, added 2 teeth to the primary sprocket. It was my little Harley Eater... . I ran that bike hard for 4-5 years, no troubles except you could not keep the front end on the ground. I slid down I 79 on my ass once, was doing about 65 when I caught a tank slapper. The bike tossed me right off. There was light snow flurries that day so my clothing protected me. I was not hurt! Cause...after market handle bars. Yep, I'v been pretty lucky. When the kids showed up, I quit riding for 25 yrs. Now I'm back!

How fast is to fast? I guess that all depends on your reaction time. If your going 100 mph you are traveling half the distance of a football field every second, couple that with the average reaction time of 2.5 seconds and you have blown through a football field before you even react, and a lot can happen in that distance. So, how fast is fast, how fast can your guardian angel fly?

Tested my 83 1100.....127mph, also tested my 86 1200 SEi..........135mph. Both tests were done out on the interstate with no other vehicles in sight for at least 5 miles, that was fast enough.

CB750 mostly stock, 130
same bike with 836 engine, 145
same bike with 1000cc Russ Collins engine, 162
ZX-10 with way too much money thrown at it, 189.
Well over 200 in a bunch of cars, but never had a bike that would break 200. I thought I would, but that window is well and truly closed.

I held on to a Hayabusa for dear life for 8 years. Sometimes I even just rode it, but many times was just holding on for dear life. 170mph + before I ran outta road. I would've liked to have gone faster. I shouldn't have been going that fast where I was and when I looked back realized how lucky I was.

That was a FUN bike. I really rode that bike hard in some twisties here in North Texas. A friend with an R1 was really pissed when he couldn't keep up with me on a bike 100 pounds heavier than his and I was 20 pounds heavier than him. However, I sometimes wish I'd purchased a Goldwing instead. Maybe it was for the better that I didn't at that time in 2005 after reading many of the issues with that Gen 1 1800. So, I'm glad I had the Busa and I'm very glad we bought a new 2016 Goldwing. This bike is a very different kind of FUUUNN that my wife and I are having together. I'm just about to reach 25k miles on mine and still don't think I've been over 100mph. Maybe one day there will be a need, but otherwise I don't see it happening.

Besides, with a Goldwing it isn't about how fast it'll get you there. It's about the ride getting there, right?
