Extra-tall Tulsa Windshield Still available?

Post by cahaulah »

Dropped my bike last week (my fault, should've listened to wife....blah blah blah) and cracked the right hand mirror housing cover (found that) but also broke my extra-tall Tulsa windshield. Have spent the last few hours searching....HDL shows to have one, just what I'm looking for, but the company itself shows to either be out of business, or at least their contact info is no longer correct. Not really ready to buy one right now (the old one still works fine, but you know how it is, like you've abused your child or something), but would like to know they'll be one around in 6 months or so when I'm ready to buy one.

Does Tulsa Enterprises even exist as a company anymore? I know there's other windshields on the market, but I'm pretty satisfied with what I have. Windshield discussions are almost as bad as oil ones, not looking for a debate here, just wondering....has anyone purchased a Tulsa product lately?

TIA!

I found the same thing, got some Asian website that wanted to know if I wanted it translated. Gonna try and contact HDL tomorrow and see if they still one in stock, will go ahead and buy it now if they do. I know lots swear by the F4+4, but at over $200 more, I imagine they would. If I find out something positive, I'll post it here.

Tulsa Enterprises ceased to be in 2008. They were bought out by All-American Products, which itself died around 2012 or so.

The Tulsa windshield (which is not actively marketed as such) is now sold by Slipstreamer, and you will find the odd reference to it on their web site. Their web site however does not mention Goldwings anywhere.

However if you look in their online catalog (which is from 2013) here, you will find them still listed:

http://www.slipstreamer.com/media/Slips ... 1_2013.pdf

Go to page 10, and you'll see them. Being that they are no longer listed on their web site, I suspect they are no longer made.

I may have received the last of the Tulsa Tall windshields for the GL1500.

I ordered it from Allen Smith in Lexington, TN on January 27 of 2016. I had to call back a couple of times, a month or two apart to get it finally delivered. It arrived on May 4, 2016 in perfect condition. It was wrapped exactly like every other Tulsa windshield I have ever bought from them.

I too found that the website was linked to a Japanese language page. I asked Allen about it and he more or less shrugged it off and said he would check it. I was pretty sure at that time that it was never going to be active again but I didn't much care as long as I received my windshield.

The last windshield I ordered from him prior to that one for my GL1500 was for my GL1800 in October of 2014 after an accident in August. I have probably ordered about six windshields from him over the past 15 + years. Always great customer service. I think the copy cats at Slip Streamer and Add On may have adversely affected his business. They would copy and market just about anything he sold and always cut the prices pretty low to under sell him. If you have a Belly Pan on your GL1500, you can thank Tulsa enterprises for inventing it.

"And then, depression set in.....". I really appreciate all the information, and have to admit I was afraid of hearing exactly what you're saying, that it was no longer available. Damn, such a great windshield too. I had one (tallest available) on my 1200, had an extra tall on my 02, and one of the first things I ordered for my 12 (after the Hartco seat). My own fault for dropping it I guess (that and feeling like I've been responsible for motorcycle abuse!).

Question is now: What's the best alternative out there, short of going to an F4 + 4 (pricey) I see Wingstuff has an extra tall (by 2 inches) one from Honda that's curved exactly like what I took off (the stock shield). Priced right, but is it tall enough for me to look through (at 6'2", I have to have a tall one to keep from the top of it hitting me right at mid-eye level). Does anyone know how much taller the extra-tall Tulsa was than the stock shield? Any suggestions from someone who's in the same dilemna would be appreciated. My old one still works well at highway speeds, just, again, feels like I'm not "treating it right". Weird, I know, my wife says I'm too anal-retentive when it comes to "NuBlu". Thanks again!

There is a Tulsa Tall on Ebay now for a GL1800. Item #192085110825. I don't know how tall it is. Write them and ask them. Looks brand new.

Hi MikeB, thanks for the link. Apparently I'm not the only one interested in this item, and the seller feedback clearly states that "he doesn't have time to measure individual items". The part numbers (2 of them, sound fishy?) are both numbers showing an extra tall Tulsa windshield, so who knows? At $230 plus $35 shipping, it certainly wouldn't be a cheap chance to take, at least to me. His feedback is like 97% positive.

Thanks again, smells a bit too fishy to me. I found a clear slipstreamer on Amazon without a vent hole (something I'd prefer) for $121 and free shipping, may end up going that route. Anyway, thanks for the information. Ride safe!

It also looks like Direct Line Parts http://directlineparts.com/product.asp? ... &mdl=&mdy= still has the extra tall listed for $208 with free shipping. Don't know how reliable that is. Would have to call them on the phone and ask to make sure. 888-693-1011

By the way, the Tulsa windshield on Ebay comes with the Vent. I think that was a $50 + item.
I prefer them without a vent myself. If any of you are interested in an extra tall Tulsa shield with a vent. This probably would not be a bad deal at all.

I also see that the seller is in Lockhart, TX. Only about 160 miles from Conroe.

One last item, the seller also has an Extra Tall Tulsa with a vent hole for $179.99. The vent itself is not included. It is item number 361886872838.

Since they are no longer being manufactured, I'd think you would probably be even more interested.

I know you were talking in maybe six months or so you would pick one up but, they are scarce and your weather down in TX is pretty nice according to the weather channel. It would be worth a ride to save the shipping charges. Would make for a nice Saturday ride.

In the process of clearing out my garage I found a Tulsa xtra tall that I had taken off my 1800 when I sold it. It is in good shape, tinted and vented. It can be seen in Lancaster cty, PA. I will post pic if I can master this computer.
Thanks, Txbiker
