Annual Rides In Your Area

Post by G-Wiz »

In a recent post I brought up an upcoming event in my area called the Oyster Run which takes place in Anacortes WA. Then the gerbil in my head got on the wheel and I thought of an interesting topic. What types of annual events are in your area?

The group that I ride with just started a new one yesterday. It's called the BVR Youth Member Cancer Sucks Bus Escort. We escort a busload of childhood cancer patients to their summer camp. It was just the first one, but we hope to be able to do it every year.

The local news station was there and did a story about it:

Every day is a good day for a bike ride. Some days are just better than others.

We have rides for prostate cancer, rides for veterans and for wounded veterans, rides for pet rescue, rides for blindness, and rallies for fun. The rides are pretty much one day affairs for fund raising, and the rallies are campout and have a good time, with some local charity receiving the proceeds. We also have different local or not so local rallies put on by clubs or organizations such as Veteran Freedom Riders, and GWRRA. Several of the cities nearby put on rallies to give bikers or motorcycle enthusiasts a place to go to party together, which also have vendors to make it more expensive. Then we have the commercial rides put on by Adventure Co and others of the like. All in all, we have a pretty active riding season which lasts about five months. Then we have winter.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

We do an escort every year, from San Jose to Santa Cruz, Ca for Operation Surf - we generally have at least 50 bikes, with escorts by numerous local police agencies.
