Buying a 07 Gl1800

Post by keithg64 » Tue Nov 07, 2017 1:13 pm

Looking at buying my first Gl1800, it's a 07 with audio comfort navi abs model. Is there any issues I need to look for or anything inpaticular. I am not new to the goldwing, I had an 1100 for 6 years and still have and ride my 1500 I've had for 7 years and put 120k miles on. Love the 1500 but may be looking at going up to the 1800.

It's not what you buy, it's what you build.

Read up on how the ABS works. ABS light on when the bike is first started. Goes out as the bike starts rolling above 5 mph etc.

Read up on how the NAVI works. Many functions can not be accessed unless the bike is stationary.
Ask the owner when the maps were last updated.

I think the 2007 had TPMS. Make sure the TPMS is working. Read up on it. Ask if the batteries or sending units sensors have been replaced lately. The battery life on the sending units are about 8 years on most TPMS sensors.

Test ride it if the owner allows. Make sure the ABS light goes out and the TPMS lights stay off.

Make sure that all the Service Bulletin campaigns have been taken care of.
Here is a link to the Service Bulletins.
The most recent and of great importance is the brake master cylinder recall -->

That is about all I can think of. Others that have a 2007 or later may chime in with more to look at.

Some of the airbags in the GL1800 airbag models were subject to the Takata airbag recall. Make sure that if yours is one of them, that it has been done.
