Request for ADMIN to update classified search parameters to current date

Post by thunderwing »

Seems when you use the search the classifieds for used wings the default date of the search is July 27th/28th 2017.

Is there anyway to have the search parameter updated to the current date each time it is used to search......it's a great tool you've developed, and I find myself searching for a GL1800 or GL 1500 to replace my current ride, just need current search results.

I'm torn between the GL 1800 and 1500, I've had the 1500, was very happy.....but......having extra room and more horsepower, comfort, etc. are weighing the choice to an 1800.

Have a happy Thanksgiving, finally had the time to search out wings today, so this is the 1st place I look!

I thought there was more room, for rider and luggage, on a 1500?

Yes, the 1500 has more space than the 1800. I have heard from previous 1200 owners that they could pack more into the 1200 than the 1500 but I have no personal experience with that.

I did a quick search for Goldwing in my area and it took me back to May of 2017.

That was on the Classifieds link --> /Goldwing-Classi ... /index.asp

Are you looking in a different place?

I did a search for 2001 GL1800 and the date of the craigslist ads were July 27-8th 2017.

The ads aren't current with today's date being 11-25-17 not 7-27-17.

The search parameters need to the code adjusted so that any searches that are made the code that's in place allows the current date to be the search parameter for the search on any given day it's searched.

A really long winded explanation, but that's it in a nutshell.

I was talking to Wingmin last week about certain features of the forum.

this software is not going to be upgraded, he is writing a brand new forum software from scratch that will work precisely like he wants it to.

things like you mentioned will be addressed with the new software.

On thing he told me, is that all pictures that are linked to this forum, or cached permanently in the forum and when we want to view them, the always come from the cache, not the outside link.

the result of that is, the appear instantaneously, in fact, faster than on any other forum unless the other forums are using a cache also. ( Albums / Attachments )

The benefit of that is, this forum will never, ever, loose a picture.
Kodos to Wingmin for that.

One feature I miss here that the forum software used by Motorcycle.com (Steve Saunder site and many others) has is the little star by poster's name that says "Thread Starter". Since Scott is a member and frequent visitor to GoldwingFacts.com I'm confident that's an item he's added to his wish-list of features. And being the IT professional that he is, I'm confident when he gets his new custom software on-line it will be the envy of many forums. And probably even speedier than the current software!

My Hat is off to the WingAdmin in so many ways, not only in his knowledge of these wonderful GoldWings and providing members an absolute wealth of very well documented How-To's on just about anything you would need to do on just about any model of wing, but also his knowledge of electronics, electricity, Information Technology, Photography, on-and-on....

Especially when you consider the day-to-day operations of GoldwingDocs.com is a one-man show, If Scott is writing and debugging new custom forum software, keeping the current system on line, administering new members, screening all posts for anything inappropriate, Writing posts himself, and recovering from the catastrophic site crash last spring, Plus hold down a regular job, how does he ever find time just to ride his own wing....?? He is truly a dedicated individual.

DenverWinger, another IT Professional.
Mark.
