Youngest GoldWing rider ever

Post by GoldWingrGreg » Fri Jun 29, 2018 7:14 am

Meet Ian. He's now 23, and the youngest GoldWing rider I've ever met. But get this, he says "he bought his first GoldWing, with his own money, 10 years ago when he was only 13 years old." He brought that 2003 Wing, as a "garage find," for $1350.00.

WOW on both points.

the garage find, and him being such a young age....

did he say how long it took to get the garage find up and running?

Meet my Son - He is on his 1st Goldwing a 1980 GL1100
He was 19 at the time on his second motorcycle. (He's 24 now)
Since then he has owned a 1993 GL1500 and today a 2003 GL1800 -

If I relived my life, I'd get a GL1000 when they first out. In late 1974 I would have been 17yo.

That is awesome. I was about 32 I thought I was young for a GW. Took a lot of ribbing at work but I didn't care I was riding like crazy. They were just running there mouths. Congrats young man. It was a 1980 1200 all decked out. Wasn't even looking for a wing looking for something to tool around on and saw it wow I can afford it so I brought it home.

I went to a Wing Ding in Knoxville in 2012? IIRC. They had some trick riding on GL1800s and there was a 12 year old girl riding her grandfathers bike around the parade grounds for a demonstration of riding skills, and she was really good. The grandfather said she had been riding in his backyard for four years, on his wing, all wrapped up in foam. I presume that meant on grass. For an 8 to 12 year old girl to learn to ride the Goldwing on grass was in my mind, phenomenal. Even at 12, in Knoxville, she had to have two helpers to hold the bike up so she could get started, and then to basically catch her when she stopped. While moving tho, she was a pretty darned good rider.

It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey
