I went to a local classic car show nearby this morning and saw a car I haven't seen before: a 1971 Honda 600:

Looking at the engine (V-twin, air-cooled, 36 hp), I saw something very familiar:

That carburetor looks awfully similar to a GL1000 carburetor...

The engine itself is barely distinguishable from a motorcycle engine, and shares many characteristics: air cooling, shared oil between engine and transmission, and more.

I also came across this interesting beast:

I must have spent half an hour examining the elegant brutality of this engine. The owner was a very interesting guy, and had rebuilt the entire car by himself - right down to the engine and transmission.

I remember seeing a few of these tooling around SoCal back in the early 70s. Maroon, Pale Yellow and I think a Dark Blue. They were marketed as the Honda Sedan. Just slightly larger than the Honda Coupe.

Back in the 70s , I drove a Honda car that was similar to this. It wasn't my car, but I got to drive it. I remember remarking to the owner that it was just like "driving a motorcycle". Never saw or drove another car that handled like that. Kind of wish I had one of them now for those really rainy days, where you don't want to start out in the rain. It has been raining daily here in my area of Florida for the last 2 months. Get out and ride early and see if you get caught in the afternoon showers.

I remember seeing those when they were new.
There is somebody near here who has the two seat sports car
version of the Honda 600, bright red. Tiny little thing.
Makes an MG Midget seem large.
I've been seeing it at a shopping center on and off for years.

That one is a honda 600 sedan, the sportier one was a honda 600 coupe. Same running gear but it had a tachometer. I had one of each. Got a picture of it some where. Both of them were yellow. They were a blast to drive, four speed on the dash. Wish I had them back.
