Scam? Typo? Black Friday? Ridiculous price on new GL1800

Post by Andy Cote » Fri Dec 21, 2018 7:22 am

Everything looks right about this ad except the price is almost unbelievable. There have been some leftover Valkyries for half of MSRP but not Goldwings! Not sorry for buying mine last year but damn why would someone not jump on this?

It is a dealership, and they have many GL1800s for sale aside from the four in the OPs post. I would say that they are lowballing their overstock of older models. If I was living near, and in the market, I would certainly check them out. A short drive to the dealership does not cost overly. They already mention in the ad that they have extras like delivery to be added.

when I bought my '02 at Honda of Russellville, AR

they were up front about it, it had been on the floor for six months, and they just wanted it gone.

but, the problem with it was the high miles of 97,500
I took it home and at 114,000 it still runs and looks like new.

In a way, I really hope it isn't a true price, otherwise a lot of people are going to have re re-adjust what they think their 2016 Goldwing with 15000 miles on the clock (plus the odd battle scar) is worth.

Well, I have to agree with you there Brett. I have a 2009, and it just went down a bit on resale value in my mind due to these prices. If I wanted to trade mine in for what I thought it was worth on one of these, I would be looking at straight trade. No chance of that is there. Regardless, as they are showing pending sales on a couple of these, I believe it to be the true price.

I think that the clue might be in their location: Massillon, OH.

Massillon is also home to Pinwall Cycles, which buys salvage bikes and parts them out...or, in some cases, if they are not too bad, they piece them back together and resell them.

If that's not the case here, then there is some other scam going on, because no dealership is going to sell bikes at a $10K+ loss, for any reason.

I did notice they don't have the VIN on the website and only stock photos from Mother Honda. First thing I'd do is a VIN check.
