Apparently the police in San Antonio now use Goldwings:

They have been using them a while. Here is one for sale in San Antonio with 148,587 miles.

I would be willing to bet that the ROI on the Goldwings is far cheaper than using the HD brand.

nearly zero maintenance, compared to the HD

I bet they spend a lot more time in service and a lot less time in the garage then the Harley's.

 I'll bet their kidneys are thanking them - Harleys are tough on kidneys. Ask me how I know...

Sheriff's department in Houston used to have Wings too. Had a deputy pass me in 2012 on hiway 290. We left the Lone Star rally and got caught in heavy rain. I checked up to 50mph due to visibility and he rolled by me had to have been 70 or better with a quick wave and was gone. S.A.'s been on wings for at least 4 years that I know of. I looked at a used police bike 3 years ago. It stayed in the sale sites for a while before it finally went.

An RCMP buddy of mine who worked highway patrol hated riding the HD all day. He was just exhausted after his shift. He personally rides a GW and also teaches MC riding. Loves his GW for any trip, long or short. He would never buy a HD after having rode them for years working HP.

I rode Harley’s, daily, 10-hour shifts, for over 10 years. Downtown policing. My back has never recovered. We went to Honda ST1300’s for a few years - what a relief! On my own time, I rode a Kawasaki Concours but, a few years after I retired, my wife said she just wasn’t comfortable on it anymore. She recalled how comfy my GL1100 had been, years before, and said she wanted us to get another ‘Wing.

We ended up getting what had been, for several years, my “dream bike” - a pearl white GL1500SE.

I’ve never looked back.

Its hard to tell if you could convert them back to a 2 up bike or not. I am sure its possible, but at what cost. Would be a good bike to get if the price was right.

Looks like the stock Wing seat on that craigslist one, from what I see, just source a stock top case, making sure the wires are good and you should be in business.
