GPS says "You need a break" huh??

Post by AZgl1800 »

Talk about new features on a GPS.

I bought a new Garmin Nuvi for my daughter, I used our car for a long trip to Arkansas and back this weekend ....

the trip is 5 hrs 30 minutes one way, and driving more or less non-stop, just a fast run to the necessary room once..... I was about 1 hour from home, so 4 hrs 30 minutes on the road.

A big bong bong bong, and up flashed a new screen I have never seen before:

Wish I had taken a picture of it, but at 78 mph? no way.

it said "Do you need a break?"
then it offered up 3 fuel plazas where I could get off and take a rest break.
Not your usual convenience store, these were big truck stops, and one McDonald's Fuel Plaza in the median of the Muskogee Turnpike in Oklahoma....

Nice feature, had never heard of this before....

I needed the break, but I wanted to get home, and pushed on through....

My wife's last car (a Lincoln) had the same sort of thing. It had a lane departure system in it, so it would watch the lines on the road, and gently steer you back into the center of your lane if you were drifting out of it. If it detected that you were becoming more and more inattentive and it was having to correct more often, it would set off a "bong bong" kind of alarm and tell you to pull over and take a rest.

It would also set off an alarm if it detected you hadn't moved the steering wheel in 15 seconds or so and tell you to put your hands back on the wheel. :)

Try taking your hands off a GW, on say The Dragon, and you will find out what the "bong bong is :o

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.
