Is Spring finally coming?

Post by echinus1988 »

We had a 56 degree day on Wednesday (3/20) so of course the motorcycles came out and my son and I rode out into the mountains. Beautiful ride but deeper in the mountains the temperature really dropped. Got down to 36 and we were in mesh gloves so we stopped in Jefferson Colorado and changed gloves then turned around. We were planning to get into Fairplay but that was an additional 14 miles and snowy. We were concerned that it might be messy there so that's why we turned around. I'll try to load some video this weekend that I recorded. But it was pure white all around us.

All in all, it was a great ride and I was sore when I got home. My son suggested sitting on our bikes 10 minutes everyday to get used to the position again. Oh yeah, I can picture sitting on my motorcycle going Vroom Vroom! :D

Possibility of snow tomorrow, very light, and then back into 60s to 70s by Tuesday next week. Could winter be loosening her grip on us?

Come on May, I'll be riding down to Yuma to pick up Old US Highway 80 to ride out to San Diego, Then up the coast to meet with a high school friend at Death Valley (the only hotel that trip) and then back home. Can hardly wait.

Ride Safe!

Here in my end of the world we have had some nice days. I have fired up the ride but the large snow drift in front of the shed is fighting the sun and I think winning. Bit to early for riding here as there is so much junk on the roads at the corners, I have faith though.

It hit 76 yesterday, high 60s today.

Did I get out? You bet I did! I even rode to work, leaving in about an hour. It's gone from 57 to 38 but the sun is coming up and rain is forecast for Friday so I will probably take the truck tonight.

So did my son, he went a lot further than I did and had a blast doing it.

I'd like to pick up a BMW GSA later this year. Yours is an 2011 air cooled correct? If so is it really noisy at hwy speeds compared to your previous or current liquid cooled engines?
I have no idea how noisy or not the air cooled boxer engines are.
I believe BMW went to liquid cooling in the 2012 GSA?

yes my GSA is a 2011 cam head, liquid cooled motors were introduced in 2013 or 2014.. while my GSA is louder than my wing or the Mighty ST 1300 its not annoying, i don't think you would be disappointed by the sound if you got a 2010 - 2012 air cooled GSA and you get that 8.8 gallon fuel tank too

Yea Id hate to get air cooled then be annoyed by it after riding nothing but two wings since 1988...ha! The liquid cooled GSA I think by what I've been reading is a 7.9 gal. Dont know if a larger tank is available aftermarket? I guess, I'm going to have to chase down one air cooled BMW rider and get him to rev that baby up to 5 grand so I can hear it...

I've driven my buddy's 1100 Beemer air-cooled boxer twin, can't say it was any noisier than my 1100, even at highway speed. :)

I hope Spring is here I spent all today washing off the winter grime from the Wing and giving it a good polish.
If it rains tomorrow I'm not going out.
