Post by Ashraf talaat »

The recomended oil is the semi synthetic or the full synthetic?

Seems that many of the GL1800 riders prefer Rotella or Mobil 1 full synthetic.

any oil is good, just change it often.

I use Rotella T6 in 5w40 pure synthetic
would use 5w30 if it was available.

the 5w lets the oil flow instantly when you start it up on -25°F mornings though, and I like that..... proved it once, just to say I did it :) ;)
the oil pressure light disappeared on the count of 5.

I use Mobil 1 High Mileage 10-40 in my 1500. Make sure it does NOT have friction modifiers.

The bottom half of the circle on back is blank. The clutch doesn’t like the friction modifiers and will slip.
Years ago I had a Honda dealer tell me Honda oil was Mobil 1 semi synthetic. I don’t know how true it was, but back then he was one of the leading Goldwing dealers in the country.
I’ve used Mobil 1 in all my bikes with great results.

I've been using the same oil in my GL1500 for years with excellent results.
