Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
I tried it - this is what I got "Image file type mismatch: expected extension jpg but extension gif given". What next?WingAdmin wrote:You'll notice some members have little pictures next to every messages they write - these are called Avatars.
Up until now, it's been a bit of a pain to add these - you had to know how to resize a picture to fit, and if you didn't get it right, the system would reject it. I changed that today, adding some code so that the resizing is done automatically for you. So if you would like a picture next to your messages - be it of you, your bike, or whatever - you can do it now. Just go to this page: Edit Avatar
You will be able to upload an image from your computer, and it will be automatically resized and installed as your avatar image. You can delete or change it anytime you like by visiting that same page. Just click the Browse button, select the image you want to use, then click Submit. That's all there is to it!

Hm, did you try uploading a GIF or a JPG? It should work with either.seabeechief wrote:I tried it - this is what I got "Image file type mismatch: expected extension jpg but extension gif given". When I click on "properties" of the picture, it says it is a ".gif". That is the extent of my technologically challenged knowledge.WingAdmin wrote:Hm, did you try uploading a GIF or a JPG? I'm away from home at the moment, I'll have a look at it tomorrow and see if I can find a problem.

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
OK, I was able to replicate your problem. What you have is a JPG file that has been incorrectly named with a GIF extension. So if the file on your computer is named "something.gif" it should actually be "something.jpg". You're uploading it to the system, it says, "oh, this is a JPG file, but it's named as a GIF file" so that's why it throws the error.seabeechief wrote:I tried it - this is what I got "Image file type mismatch: expected extension jpg but extension gif given". Just rename your file so that it has .jpg on the end instead of .gif, and try it again - that should fix your problem.

Worked when I put the GL1000 up but doesn't like the pic of my 83 Aspencade. Too many pixels. Tried 4 or 5 times. No go. No biggie!

Thanks for the reminder in the newsletter. Thought I'd use a picture of my first street bike in 65. Yup. It was a HONDA.

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
There is an upper limit in the size of file you can upload - try setting your camera to a lower resolution.83 goldwing az wrote:Failure on LG G2 android all I get is red lettering ( bad size). Camera is 13 M pixels. Any help?

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
Not to sound like a broken record, but I can't get my avatar to upload. I made the mistake of deleting my previous one, and since then it won't take. That was the same day the site went wonky and I had to flush the DNS cache on my desktop. This is the error message I get when I upload even a resized picture:
"Could not upload avatar to ./images/avatars/upload/3e3b14cfbff3a9b618f67738aca971e9_60333.jpg"
I did it once, and I'm not exactly a technology virgin. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
It's very easy. The import and thing is that the picture is within the size requirements both dimensionally and with file size. Also should be jpg format. Are you getting any error messages when you upload?
Try again: ucp.php?i=profile&mode=avatar

Not really an "error" message, it just says that the pic is too big.
