I haven't had reports of Android devices with problems uploading images, any device with a browser capable of file upload should be able to do it (and that's virtually all). If you have problems, you could try installing a different browser like Chrome on the Android device.

As for sizing, the image will be resized after upload to a maximum size of 200 pixels wide by 150 pixels tall. If you upload an image that is already that size, it will not be resized, and you will have maximum control over the content and quality of the image.

Not sure which forum software you're using. However, as far as I know, all forum software works with http://en.gravatar.com website. The site allows users to register an avatar to their email address so the same avatar shows up on all sites they use with that email address.

There's usually a setting on the backend to turn it on or off. I use bbPress forum software on my sites and it works like a charm. It's nice not having to upload an avatar to every site.

Gravatar isn't supported on this software, without some modification. I could definitely write an implementation myself, if there were enough people who wanted to use it.

Probably not a high demand on this site. The thing is we all like using pictures of our bikes on this forum. But we probably don't want to use our Goldwing on a fishing forum. I just use it because it's built in on my forum software and a lot of the forums I use support it.

OK, two new avatar features are now available when adding or changing your Avatar:

Uploading from a file: This is the way it's always worked. Select "Upload Avatar", then click "Choose File" to select the file on your local hard drive. When done, click Submit and it will upload and resize your avatar automatically.

Upload from file

Uploading from a web site: If you know the address of an image file on a web site somewhere, you can have the site download it automatically, resize it, and use it as your avatar. Select "Upload Avatar", enter the URL of the image as shown, then click Submit:

Gravatar

Gravatar: as requested, we now support Gravatar. Select "Gravatar" and enter your email address. I recommend you leave the dimensions empty, the system will determine them automatically. Click Submit. That's it!

Re: Adding an avatar to your SIGNATURE

Post by WingzRider »

I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me how to add the USA Map of "states visited" to the member SIGNATURE section. I already have the map pic, stored on my own PC, but don't see any click-link in the "signature" settings section to directly add the map to the Signature itself. Can I only add a pic to the Signature section if the map pic is hosted and stored on a pic-hosting website??? Thanks in advance for any help.

After you generate the "sites visited" picture, upload it to your Member Gallery. Just like this one:

Once you've done this, you can right-click this thumbnail in the gallery and select "Copy Image URL" (Chrome), "Copy Shortcut" (Internet Explorer), "Copy Image Location" (Firefox), or whatever the equivalent is for your browser. This will give you the URL for the image.

You can then go to your signature editor, here: ucp.php?i=ucp_profile&mode=signature

Paste in the URL you copied inside the image tags:

Save this, and you're done!

Adding the picture was easy. Thank you. Now how do I rotate it upright? After all, it started upright in my file. Now I am leaned steeper than any goldwinger has a right to do.

This is a problem that we continually fight.

Some cameras write the image files out oriented whichever way you hold the camera.

Some cameras write the image file out always oriented the same way, but put data inside the file that says "rotate left 90 degrees."

Some cameras do both.

Some cameras do neither.

The system tries to make a best guess, but it can't get it right every time, there are just too many variations.

I would try opening the picture locally on your computer (or phone, or whatever), rotate the image, then save/close it and try uploading it again. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to get the rotation correct.

I keep getting this error,
The submitted avatar is 1310 pixels wide and 737 pixels high. Avatars must be at least 50 pixels wide and 50 pixels high, but no larger than 200 pixels wide and 200 pixels high.

Update: I had to resize it in Windows 10, looks like it's working now! :)

Me too. I tried a lot of different things but it still said could not upload file. So I opened a Gravatar account and uploaded that one.
