Adding an avatar to your profile
You'll notice some members have little pictures next to every messages they write - these are called Avatars.
Up until now, it's been a bit of a pain to add these - you had to know how to resize a picture to fit, and if you didn't get it right, the system would reject it. I changed that today, adding some code so that the resizing is done automatically for you. So if you would like a picture next to your messages - be it of you, your bike, or whatever - you can do it now. Just go to this page: Edit Avatar
You will be able to upload an image from your computer, and it will be automatically resized and installed as your avatar image. You can delete or change it anytime you like by visiting that same page. Just click the Browse/Upload button, select the image you want to use, then click Submit. That's all there is to it!

I followed your directions. Works like a charm. For techno-challenged folks like myself it helps to have good directions. Keep up the good work, and congrats on the 30,000 milestone.

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
That was the easiest thing I've done all week!!
Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
I followed the instructions and got "The submitted avatar is 1542 pixels wide and 1277 pixels high. Avatars must be at least 50 pixels wide and 50 pixels high, but no larger than 200 pixels wide and 200 pixels high".

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
Give it another try. Some of my custom image resizing code got wiped out in the recent board software upgrade. I've put it back in now, so it should work fine for you.coy55boy wrote:I followed the instructions and got "The submitted avatar is 1542 pixels wide and 1277 pixels high. Don't have Internet, just my iPhone, how do I add photo of my bike to my profile with mobile device?

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
Apple has decided that they know best (as usual), and that you shouldn't be able to do this on your iPhone. You can do it with an Android phone with no problem.Devil-Doc wrote:Don't have Internet, just my iPhone, how do I add photo of my bike to my profile with mobile device?
I have read that there are a couple native iPhone apps that can help you do this, but I don't have an iPhone, so I can't vouch for them or their viability:
Quickpic http://www.cliqcliq.com/support/quickpic
Aurigma Up http://www.aurigma.com/iphone

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
Hey gang! I must be the one everyone is playing a joke on...lol.
Trying to add an avatar, and when I choose my pic, then submit....it just clears everything out and leaves the "current" as blank. So....what I do wrong?
By the way, fantastic site!

It's right at the top of every forum page - it says "User Control Panel" - you can get to it here as well: User Control PanelDavidMB wrote:Where do you hide the link/button for going to your profile pages?

Re: Adding an avatar to your profile
Thanks! I see the logic in that label. I was being narrowminded looking for a label that said Profile!
I did, while waiting for your response, get into the profile area by following the "Change Avatar" link that is in this thread. I see a comment at the bottom of the page that alludes to the fact that I might change my user name; but I am not seeing where that is. ??

You know, I thought the same thing, and figured that was why he had not responded to my request yet, after about 5 hours . . . Figured 250 people, at least, had jumped in front of me before I got my request off to him! He was pretty quick with responses earlier.
