Tyre size please

Post by Chrissy and john » Mon Jul 01, 2019 2:49 pm

Hi there all.
We are new to the goldwing type of bike coming from a sports bike to a tourer to a cruiser and am gonna probably be asking you lot for help many times ;)
We have an old 1200 interstate 1200,,1992 model and back tyre rubbing. Can any of you tell me what tyre size should be on the rear of this bike please. Would appreciate any help as the manual we have is useless :D

hello and welcome
if it's a 92 you have a 1500 not a 1200. if it's a 1200 and the tire is rubbing it could just be the rear suspension needs to be raised, air added to the air shock. I know my 1200 would rub on bumps when riding 2 up if the air was down. make sure your swing arm isn't rusted and swelling causing it to rub the tire on the sides and as you know make sure your tire pressures are good
you will find there are a lot of very helpful people here so if you have a question just ask someone will come along with an answer or at least point you in the right direction

Thank you so much. It says 1200 on the side and log book and yes on roundabouts or bends we scrape. Still getting use to riding a different style but loving it. Very relaxed way of riding and enjoying the change. I'm sure I will be back to ask lots more questions and make new friends. Have a good evening.

If it's a 1200 then, 130/90-16 front and 150/90-15 rear, or MT90-16 front and / or MV85-15 rear, H rated & bias ply.

About scraping, does it have rider floorboards or pegs? Pegs are OEM but many folk added floorboards later, they will scrape easier. Also, on my 1200 bike, center stand spring was letting center stand droop some in harder corners, especially with dips. A second spring added on other side was the cure.

Two up, likely need more air in rear shocks.

Post a picture of the bike if you can. We can tell a lot more about the bike from a pic or two.

Yep that is a nice looking 1200. I would suggest taking the seat off so you can get to all the lines from comp to shock and air it up and start spraying soapy water on everything until you find leak
it may be a simple air line or fitting leaking

Morning,,thanks guys we love it even if since we bought her there has been lots of faults and with it being our first cruiser it's a real learning curve for us. The varadero and Suzuki didn't have do many extras on so was easier to get to bits lol. She runs lovely
