98 Goldwing Opinions
I have a chance to buy a 98 Wing at a very reasonable price... only thing is... it needs a starter as told to me by the owner... was wondering if a relay is bad ??? or the starter... love to jump on the 98... be a big upgrade for me from a 82 Standard... and yes I need to put on my drool bib on... but I wanted to hear from the group is this a good model to get … mileage is 58K... seating with fingers crossed waiting for a reply or replies

Re: 98 Goldwing Opinions
Could be one of two relays, one of a handful of switches, stuck brushes/dirty, or the actual starter. There are some step by step guides here for diagnosing a no start condition. Have you verified running condition by push starting it? By 98 you get most of the upgrades and such. Is it an SE or Aspencade? 58K is just about broken in.

Oh yeah, you got a deal.
I had a White 98SE for a good long while, great ride...
loved the newer style front end, and tranny gears.
the starter issue is minor.

Go for it, I still wishing I had my 98 1500 back. Great ride and was trouble free for me.

Do you hear the starter spin when you hit the starter button? Or does it click?

Re: 98 Goldwing Opinions
I am currently riding a '99 SE and I love it. Almost 100,000 miles.
If'n I was you, I'd just buy it and work out the problems later.
Can't be too bad to fix. With the help of the people on this forum,
you'll have it running like new in no time.
Good luck with it.

Re: 98 Goldwing Opinions
A starter should last a very long time.
Could be it needs reverse gears in which case it might not be such a bargain, a roll of the dice. The owner could simply have the starter replaced and get much more money for it???????
