on a 1500 Wing... at what point would you say it needs to be rebuilt due to the mileage??? or does mileage count on Wings ??

Has more to do with care and feeding. There are plenty still going strong with over 300,000 miles as well as junkers with less than 30,000.

I agree with you fully on maintenance and care... I guess I should've made my statement a little more clearer... as in... "with good maintenance at which point would you start to consider a rebuilt"... I myself ...I'm driving a 94 S-10 V6 with over 225K and good care is what got it there … good maintenance is key to a engine … Thank you for your feedback, I do appreciate it

It's rare to see or hear of a Gold Wing motor being rebuilt. As stated above, with your maintenance regime, you should expect 250-300k without major trouble. My '94A with 193,000+ miles purrs like a kitten. Original clutch and all. Normal maint only.

my 2002 gl1800 is at 114,000 miles and runs like brand new on Rotella T6 5w40.

my 2001 Chevy Suburban 4x4 is at 223,000 on Mobil-1 10w30 and runs like brand new, although it is consuming a bit of oil..... I fully suspect the valve guides, but it would take another 100,000 miles of oil cost to offset the cost of replacing the valve guides, so I am ignoring the tiny slurp it has.

our car is a 2007 Pontiac Vibe with 100,999 miles, we change the oil annually at around 10k to 14k miles, using full synthetic since brand new..... the oil level does not drop, and Blackstone Labs reports that it is in very good condition, and I can continue my annual 15,000 mile change intervals without any damage.

The other issue is the age. Most well cared for GoldWings outlast the availability of rebuild parts. So by the time you might need an oversized piston, or undersized bearing, there are none to be had. Right now you can still get 1500 parts, but they are getting spotty. Earlier models, good luck. And the value of the bike usually doesn't justify the cost. It's easier to just find another better example. It is the curse of having such a long service life to begin with.

Well said... looks like a good 3rd party parts supplier would get involved for there still a good many older wings out there and money to be made

Maybe someday if they ever get rare enough. As of now most people with the slightest engine problem just buy a used engine if not a whole used bike.

Well just like most manufacturers these days... come out with newer things so you have to upgrade for they don't service that model any more
