Oh man....that recording was quite a few years ago (11 to be exact). If memory serves...
Mic: Audio-Technica AT-3035 (probably? Don't recall for sure)
Preamp/interface: E-MU 1616M
Recording space: Corner bedroom studios! (our guest room) Portable reflexion filter, some kind of acoustic treatment on rear wall, mic pop filter
Software: Probably...Adobe Audition. I think. No recollection of which reverb was used, could have either been Audition's studio reverb (my most-used reverb plugin in Audition) or it might have been the DSP reverb in the 1616M.
EQ: Probably, and it would have been done afterwards, again in Audition, and probably parametric. I typically will give a small bump in the low end of her voice, and a tiny bit way up top (small Q) to add a bit of sparkle, but not much else.
EDIT: I just went back and listened to that again, and I'm fairly sure the reverb is the 1616M's DSP. I loved that unit, but they stopped making drivers for it after Windows XP. I got it working with Windows 7 with a hack, but no way it would work with Windows 10, so it had to go.
Sorry it's taken time to get back to you Scott, and thank you for the detailed reply. I find this kind of thing fascinating.
The AT3035 is a very interesting Mic... It's more of a medium-diaphragm condenser at only 19mm diameter diaphragm (an electret too), but has a frequency response almost as flat as many SDC's. Nice stated low self noise of 12db, which (if true) beats a lot of LDC's! Not suprised you added a little EQ boost at the top-end, as many budget LDC's tend to have a 3 to 5db lift up at 12KHz, which the AT3035 is completely devoid of!
Your Emu 1616m was I think a very well respected and flexible interface. Lots of IO, and excellent SN ratio. Shame it's no longer viable with Windows 10! Progress eh!
I only dip my toes in audio recording and production with really low-end gear. Like everything in life, there seems to be so much to learn! I can see how people make careers out of it!
I have to record an Irish singer soon, along with Accordion, and Keyboard. For this I've picked up a used Behringer U-phoria UMC404HD quite cheaply, so I can record four phantom-powered mics simultaneously, and a Midi source too. The singer already has a budget LDC, but I'm now hunting for a couple of good value used SDC's or LDC's to use on the accordion. I appreciate if I get LDC's they may need quite some taming at the top end, but may give me more flexibillity in future recording sessions. There are even multi-pattern LDC's kicking around on ebay from time to time for reasonabe sums.
The accordion is also wired for Midi, as is the keyboard, so it would be great if I could capture everthing simultaneously, then I could play to my heart's content with combining Midi synthesised instruments with the live Accordion mic capture.
First I had a Tascam DR40 recorder, and then an Art Dual USB Pre. The tascam will allow up to four channel recording to an SD card using its built-in Electrets plus two XLR's or Line-ins. The Art usb will do two mics with Phantom power, but this has limited gain, and will only do 16bit 44KHz (not that I really need the headroom of the UMC's 24 bit capture or 96KHz).
Anyway, all great fun!!!
