Helmet Storage Idea - Helmet Hitch
Santa brought my wife and I a couple of new helmets this year...
Considering an improvement in helmet storage; these will be stored indoors, rather than out in the garage.
While perusing various 'helmet stands', I ran across this at Amazon (of course...)
It's called a 'Helmet Hitch'. Anyone in this community use these?

Sorry, no. Mine is either on the couch, a chair, or a shelf in the closet.

Re: Helmet Storage Idea - Helmet Hitch
If habitually hanging your helmet on the mirror is bad because of damage to the EPS foam (according to Snell), this must be equally bad?

Mostly in the trunk of the wing. Extras are in boxes on shelves. Use to keep one on a mannequin behind the front door. Would scare the hell out of people when they first saw it.

Our spares are in a helmet bag on a shelf in the Garage. I've thought of using styra-foam wig heads but never followed up on it. It just was not important enough to me to research it very far.

Re: Helmet Storage Idea - Helmet Hitch
I did that too (storage in the non-temperature controlled garage...) but would like to try something different.
I have little shelf-space (spring cleaning task on the list...) but a lot of wall space in the office/spare bedroom.

I made one similar to that and hang my helmets in the garage during riding season and during the winter I have them in the basement on large round bed post ends mounted on 4x4s. Helmets are covered with helmet bags.

I looked on Amazon. This hanger costs $15. There are some costing $100.
Why would you pay for something like this. What's wrong with a nail? Just asking. LOL.

A $200 helmet - on a nail?

A $500 helmet?

I bent a 2 inch peice of flat stock into a mount like what you show and mounted a round fence post topper to it.

Re: Helmet Storage Idea - Helmet Hitch
We have a small table with a top and bottom shelf, my wife's uncle made years ago. I use it to store my helmets on. I have a modular helmet for cooler and one for warmer weather. The current season helmet goes on the top shelf and the other one goes on the bottom. I also have one helmet out in the shop for those times I need to just go out for a quick test ride.
I'm not sure I would like to hang my helmet on the wall, to much of a chance of it getting knocked off.

Re: Helmet Storage Idea - Helmet Hitch
my helmet has a unique spot to put it.
on top of the furniture blankets in the shop,
or on the top shelf of my clothes closet,
or sitting on the dash of my bike with the GPS holding it in place....
depends on where I am, and how long I will leave it in place.

Re: Helmet Storage Idea - Helmet Hitch
Problem solved:
Solution - a handrail bracket - working weight 250 lbs when on a stud. So, I have little fear that this won't hold 5 lbs of helmet. $5.80 at the local big-box store.
Seems to be sitting on a good spot on the inside of the lid. There may be an opportunity to put a small piece of polystrene on the arm as padding.
On the wall - and fairly high up, so heads don't get clobbered.
I need two more of these for a couple of other lids that are still useful. No, might not make it thru a 6.0 earthquake, but they're now out of the way and in a controlled environment.

I was looking for a way to hang our helmets last Summer and after Googling all the different hangers I could find, I decided to make my own.........

Re: Helmet Storage Idea - Helmet Hitch
I found the motorcycle "wall art" while Googling helmet holders. When I saw it, I told myself: "self, you can use THAT to make something really unique!" So I bought it and re-purposed it for a helmet holder. The pipe and fittings were pretty inexpensive. I also made this Millennium Falcon helmet holder for my son from some "wall art" as well.........................

On my Goldwing, my helmet goes in the trunk when not in use. On the scooters, the helmets go under the seat or in the topcase. At home, if they aren't in their respective rides, They go in their helmet bags and sit on top the the garage refrigerator. All four helmets fit on top of it easily.

Some are sitting on a shelf in my dedicated MC Jacket Closet, some are sitting in the trailer, all are in their own helmet bag, all are in the dark, no sun.
