I know some people are looking for diversions during the stay-at-home isolations. Here's something interesting that can help pass some time:
"Sluggy" is a 1969 Corvette bought new and converted to a racing car. It was raced through the early 70's by William "Snoopy" Wessel. It has more than 90 SCCA, IMSA and Trans-Am victories under its belt. It's an extremely valuable piece of racing history.
It was purchased by Genius Garage, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering education of youth in engineering and design, and used by its students to begin a restoration. Unfortunately, the original owner (who was helping the students) passed away, and the project fell by the wayside, so the owner of Genius Garage made a deal: he would sell the car for the crazy price of $5000, with a caveat: the buyer had to be a young person, and they had to present a viable business plan to restore, drive and race the car.
Many people submitted applications, and the young man who was selected was Sam Every in upstate New York.
Since he received the car, 25-year-old Sam, a Corvette car mechanic by trade, has been absolutely KILLING it in the restoration of this classic racer. He's detailing every step of the restoration on his YouTube channel, which can be seen here: Wild Strawberry Garage.
You can see one of his videos below, but I'd encourage you to visit his channel and see them all, as the project comes together!

Nice find! I'll be watching it more later. Got through the first 2 just now.
I'm stoked for him. Something I wanted to do as a teen indeed and remember watching races on the TV from about 6 yrs old in the 60s...but could not afford to do it.
