Possible new member..but an new convert

I'm hoping to see a new member joining our ranks soon....my brother (from another mother) just purchased his first Goldwing yesterday. He has been a steadfast Harley (Road King) rider and always claimed he was going to get a Wing....well yesterday he did just that! I met him at a MC shop that had a 1988 Wing for sale. Was in good shape with couple imperfections on the body, but the engine was strong. Connected the battery and it rode well, will need some TLC, but being 32 yrs old, that is expected. Last work done on it was 2 yrs ago according to paper work..only has 26k miles on the odo! My brother was a bit apprehensive for driving it home...but that quickly disappeared after the first few miles. Once home, his response was "WOW...should have done this a LONG time ago!!"

We need to go over the Wing and get it best condition! This picture was taken about 7 yrs ago when I had my 1500. Will update with new picture later!

Have the timing belts been done recently? Even though it is very low mileage, if it is on its first set of belts they are way past their use by date. And if it has been sat without being used for a lengthy spell then they could also do with changing. Full instructions for doing this task (by WingAdmin) is on this site and are excellent.

That will be part of the TLC mentioned. The white Wing in the picture was mine from day 1....I did multipe belt changes over the 19 years and 210,000 miles I owned the bike..to my knowledge it is still on the road! So quite aware of the need to check and change the belt....thanks for your input!

That "Wow! why did I wait so long" response is typical of those coming off of other bikes and riding a Gold Wing for the first time. Tell him congrats on the new to him Gold Wing and may he have many of enjoyable miles.
