Need light advice

Post by bigsteveswing »

Hi all. I have a light mounted on the sidecar that is to act, i guess, as a headlight. I would like to replace it with an LED light using the same mounting if possible. I went on www.superbrightleds.com and there are soooo many options of light output, beam angle, etc., I just get lost. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what light will do the job best? I don't want to blind oncoming traffic, obviously, but would like to be able to shed some light on that side of the road/curbs/ditches.

Does the current light housing and reflector provide the right "shape" of lighting?

If so, can you replace the bulb in it with an LED, or do you want an updated housing as well?

That looks like a standard H4-based fog light, so using an LED in there isn't going to really get what you want.

I would suggest a narrower beam, or you're going to be blinding oncoming drivers with it.

I'm thinking a 7"-12" light bar across the front of the hack would be awesome. Something like one of these:

Or
If you wanted one in the same location, maybe a single 6" mounted vertically would work:

I would like to replace the whole assembly, not just a bulb. What beam angle would you suggest?

I agree. I have two lights on mine - the one on the left (facing traffic) is 30 degrees. The one on the right, pointed a bit right, is 45 degrees, to illuminate dark ditches and deer in the woods.

So if I use the 30 degree angle light and it is already at the extreme right of the rig, that should light up everything I want without bothering other traffic.

There are so many cheaper options on Amazon but I just don't know if I trust what I'd be getting.

Thanks everyone for the help.
