A little assistance/advice please...and thank you

So, I just did my first oil change on my "new" went perfect. But I have a couple questions, completely unrelated to the oil change.

I'm running an 81 GL1100 with 107,000 kms on it. The timing belt, carbs, and fuel pump were all done 2000 kms ago. She fires up first touch of the starter. I'm like a kid in a candy, here's my questions:

1) My bike seems to stutter a little bit between 3000-3500 rpms. No backfiring or missing. It just seems to run a little poorly in that range. If I give the throttle a twist she snaps to life and away I roar (which is ever so sweet!!). Any suggestions? I've got a new air filter on order, new plugs are going in tomorrow, and I already swapped out the stock mirrors for some really nice, is my paycheque going to take a kicking as I have rediscovered after-market goodies!

2) My bike came with an after-market oil dipstick - which my dad loves and is super desirous to get his hands on! I told him to get his own...any idea where you can order those from?

3) What is this "seafoam" everyone is talking so highly of? And where do I get it? It seems like it smooths out minor issues with little to no effort.

Thanks for the help! I love the fraternity of bike enthusiasts...

your first question could be cleared up useing a half can of seafoam in the fuel, you can get Seafoam at NAPA and Walmart I believe. The oil dipstick can be had from ... tid=597510

hope this helps

I know that tectron by chevron a gas additive works very up and mixing with today gas. I recommend you run a bottle of this stuff twice a year. A local car dealer has customers in all the time with the ses light on they dump two bottles run it a day light goes off.Today fuels are crap.. Black bottle wal mart some time auto zone beats wal marts price.. Sally

Thanks for the help! I picked up some Sea Foam and it smoothed things out.

I have changed the air filter and the fuel filter now. So, she's breathing a little freer and easier. Of course, when I changed the fuel filter, there must've been a little crap around the petcock because it was running a little rougher immediately after. Such is life, a little Sea Foam and she's purring again.

I took her out for a good long ride the other night and found out that my speedo stops at 115 km/hr. The rest of the bike continues to accelerate...I don't think that would be a convincing arguement with a police officer though. So, I'm going to order up a new cable and see if that's the issue. Regardless, I know that 4000 rpms is the speed limit.

I've posted a few pics of the bike from the other night. Since then, I swapped out the driving lights as the old pair wasn't working. Now, I can light up the night! I'm working hard to get her in perfect running order because my dad, bro-in-law, and myself are planning a 4-5 day road trip this summer.

Keep the rubber side down and I'll see you all out on the road!
