For the first time in 12 years: user banned from the site

Most everyone here knows that I run the GoldwingDocs forum with a light touch: most everyone is friendly, and I rarely get complaints, and it's even MORE rare that I have to step in and do something.

Two months ago, we got a new user on the site, and in the two months since he joined, I have had more complaints about this one user than I have had in the past 12 years COMBINED. I have had to delete more of his posts and topics from the site than I have had to do (again) in the past 12 years COMBINED.

Two weeks ago, he posted an extremely offensive message that insulted and offended many members, myself included. When I told him that his post had generated more complaints than I had ever seen from a single post, and that he needed to apologize to those involved, his response was: "Ohhhh come on, it was only in jest. Just English humour."

He then proceeded to write more offensive and inflammatory posts on another topic which forced me to delete several of his posts and eventually lock that topic. I warned him again to cut it out.

Today was the last straw. He posted yet another off-topic post insulting people.

Member w109driver is now permanently banned. He can continue to access the site and read what he likes, but I have shut down his ability to post publicly or privately. He will not be regaining this privilege.

I hate doing this, but he was just dragging things down here. I apologize to those who were offended or had issues with what he was posting.

Thank you Scott. Much better to ban an offensive member than to close a thread because of his posts. Long time coming.

Thanks Scott- a sad, but in this case,an overdue action. It's been my experience, on some other sites, that there seems to be many from that offenders country that seem to enjoy mucking up various threads and sites for no reason other than creating division. What they don't seem to realize is that an admin can 'see' each time they visit-even if they don't try to create another id. Kudos to you sir for taking the step of preventing the offensive offender from posting.

I did delete quite a few - but there are some that are quoted in others messages as well, some of which is reasonable debate, so in order to do that I would have to delete quite a bit. I've deleted quite a bit of it however, especially the off-topic posts.
