Long Way Up

Post by tamathumper »

Just finished watching Long Way Up a while back. I re-watched Long Way Round and Long Way Down before starting the newest series.

Did anyone notice how slow they seemed to be going in most of the B-roll footage? It looked like they were doing about 45 mph most of the time!

Did they have to travel at a slow speed to conserve battery?

I am up to about 2 minutes into it, the GPS on the one bike is showing 42-46 mph most of the time.

kind of weird not hearing any engine noise, just the whine of the gearing

I loved these series. And the books. I read the books, I saw the series. The Long Way Round book was AMAZING, and goes into far more detail about what happened on that amazing trip than the series did.

The second Long Way Down book was...less good. It was obviously ghost-written, and not well. The series was good, but when Ewen's wife joined them, it kind of went downhill from there.

I saw their bikes in a museum in Glasgow, Scotland when I was there:

This last series, Long Way Up was...not great. Far too much focus on the production team, support vehicles, and geez, almost two episodes on finding and refitting a school bus, so that they didn't have to ride their motorcycles. They just lost me.

I thought the same thing - when Ewan's wife joined them it wasn't the same.

And the school bus? What was up with that?!
